    CBP "Not Medically Cleared"

I have applied for a Customs Officer position. Recieved a letter in the mail today that states I'm not medically cleared until I submit additional medical documentation for my history with depression as a teenager. In the letter it states in bold when referring to the additional medical information, "The information should include a complete copy of his/her initial and all ongoing treatment notes/reports, and a current assessment."

My question is this: Are they allowed to request copies of "treatment notes/reports?" I assumed they are only allowed to ask specific questions to medical officials pertaining to whether I am medically/mentally capable of the job responsibilities. I have no problems with them asking for a report written by my psychologist about my past conditions but asking for "complete copies" of medical files I think is a little odd. Isn't that against HIPAA regs?

Anyone else have this situation? Now I have to jump through hoops because I was depressed in high school... geez, how many more months will this take?

    Any answers? Thanks in advance.

You signed a form (usually the last page of your SF-86) that allows the USG to obtain personal (yes, even medical) information about you during your background investigation. If you want the job, give them the info they request. If not, someone else who wants the job and is willing to put forth a little effort to get it will take your spot.
