So I spent yesterday evening producing a resume containing the info in the 612 for each job I've held in the past.
It is (unformatted) 6 pages long so far. I think I can get that down to half that once I've formatted it properly, as I was just collecting the information yesterday and typing it up. Education will add another page to that.
(Note that it does include all the crappy little jobs I held during college and things like that. Even one job I held for a week. There are lots of "unknown" responses for things like salary, manager etc. for some of those real old jobs though.)
I luckily have originals of my transcripts on hand, and there's no way I could get originals in a week. One college I attended doesn't issue them in person and they have to be issued via mail and it takes a couple of weeks. And my driving records can be obtained in person over the counter.
Apart from feeling kinda dumb for having a huge resume (I'm in my mid 30s, and listing every job I've ever had seems ridiculous), I think I'm ready to go. Kinda pumped up and looking forward to next week.
Next week will be my first time EVER when I call into work and pretend to be ill in order to take a day off. I can't take a vacation day. That's what's making me nervous...
But yeah I was pumped up yesterday and hammered through a workout. Extra situps/crunches, pushups, and some decent cardio. My pushups and running are good right now, but the stretching thing and the situps definitely need some work.

I hope so to man I got a friend who been putting me back in shape. Its like apollo creed training rocky. I told him Im not chasing no chicken. H a H a. But for the past couple of weeks I been hitting the weight room and the pavement the 5 miles I have not yet ran but the 3 I have i am slowly getting strong.

I am in my early 30's I thought I was in shape for this but its going to take a whole lot more. Bowling and playing basketball isn't helping. So I did step it up a couple of weeks ago. So my friend has been my drill Sgt. I feel like Mayo from Officer and a Gentlemen but it feels good as time goes on. I been trying to stay focus but since the final four tournment started its going to be hard. Alright time to eat some raw eggs(no time to eat some salad my wife bought) she so happy about me working out. Wow Mac thats a lot of jobs I was going far back on my job history but I think I'm just going to go 10 years back maybe 15 years. You think thats good? I have another problem state police have started to make calls and the academy might start in August and end in December. Your pay is 1500.00 every 2 weeks do I still go thru the process as well as USM. I want the USM just want to have a plan B. Eating this crap is horrible did any of you guys look at how academy life is.
-
Glad to hear working out is going well Chace. Keep it up. We definitely have some time before the academy, but the FIT test may be soon. (The deputy I reserved my spot with asked if I could pass it in a month or so). No time like the present to get started though!
As for the job history...I've gone through the process with the Border Patrol where the steps are similar. It seemed as if the BP used the OF-612 to establish that you are in fact qualified and to gather previous employer’s contact information to verify. They use the SF-86 for the background investigation. So don’t worry if EVERY job you’ve ever had isn’t on the OF-612 or your resume, but it is good to gather all of that information anyway because it makes filling out the SF-86 less of a nightmare.
I can’t say what the USMS academy is like. I can say the Border Patrol academy wasn’t all that bad (until I broke my arm 3 weeks before graduation). Lots of PT and class time, no family, but you are basically being paid to workout and go to school which is fine with me.

Be on the lookout for those confirmation e-mails. Mine just came through.
-
I received mine this morning also. This was a good thing because I was beginning to get that paranoid feeling that I would show up on the wrong date and/or time. lol
-
I got my e-mail notification this morning...
Hey guys, got "the e-mail" this morning it is just basic info like date, time, location, bring 2 forms of ID at least one with photo... and a reminder to bring a resume or OF 612, college transcripts, driving record (past 7yrs) AND if applicable your DD-214 and veterans preference letter.
Chace you are quite a MOTIVATOR, thanks for the pep talk !!!:D
-
Ok guys I got the e-mail too. This is really about to happen. Just to ask what does your family feel about you guys joining and has everybody got those days off to go. Maybe one of us can help you come up with a excuse if you don't. Or just flat out tell your boss what is about to happen hopefully they will understand if not in the near future go by your old job as a USM and thank him for being a a++hole for not understanding.

Anybody staying at a hotel or what good hotel are in Knox
-
Hey Chace! I wish I had a "drill sgt" as well so take advantage of that extra help with your fitness program.
Well, I just put my request for a personal day for Monday on my Sgt's desk so hopefully it will get approved... if not then I am sorry but I feel a stomach virus coming up on Monday :D
My husband has been EXTREMELY supportive at all times so that makes it even better. We are driving up to Raleigh on sunday night and staying over so on Monday i'll be up early and ready 2 go for this session.
Right now I am searching hotwire for a nearby hotel.
I've also started running in the evenings and I have felt so much better after each week... I am on my 3rd week let's hope I keep it up:rolleyes:
Macteam - How is that resume coming along? mine is not yet ready I hope to have it ready by tomorrow night and I also want to fill out the OF612 just to feel better about being "prepared"....
RLC427 - Just curious where were you stationed with BP?
Does anyone now if there really is a board interview for this session?
-
Wow my session is not till thursday you have a early session. Good luck. That stomach virus always work. Keep up the good work lexis. Hotels are kind of high in Knoxville. Its either Hilton or my truck. AAA discount ok is giving me a better deal as I type. Should I cut the goatee off and have a baby bottom or should I trim the goatee. How have you been in LE lexis
-
That was a truely inspirational pep-talk. Thanks, it really helps to have support.
Speaking of which the question was asked about the support on the home front. I have to say my wife has been outstanding in that area. She has been a real go-getter and went above and beyond by helping call during our marathon radio contest and with located the best flights to get me to Raleigh with as few connections as possible.
Plus she reads the forums as well for insight so a few brownie points can't hurt either.
My resume should be finished up tonight and other than packing I'm ready to go.
The PT is another story altogether though; P-up and S-ups not really worried about, but I bruised my heel really bad about 3 weeks before the post and so my running has been sidelined for a bit, Dr. orders.
It is killing me not to be able to run at the moment because I know that the FIT test will be sooner rather than later not that I am hurt. Oh, well. Maybe they will work with me a bit. But since my BI check will take alot more time than normal due to my extensive time living out of country I'm hoping it will give me the extra time to heal up and get to where I need to be to join all you fine individuals at FLETC
Maybe I can build up enough upper body strength to do the run on my hands :p
-
You will be ready by then Chemo it only a 1.5 mile run under a certain time I think don't get quote me on it. Just don't do other activities to provoke it. Family is still important in the process husband, wife,or best friend would always be good.
-
Hey Lexis,
I was stationed in Wilcox, AZ but since I broke my arm at FLETC I never made it there except for orientation. 6 months of rehab was too long to be on workers comp (you only get 60% of your regular pay, or something close to that), so I had to get another job and didn’t go back. Hopefully this works out then I'll know for sure I made the right decision. I was hoping the BP would be a stepping stone into the USMS anyway!
Oh yea, I was told that the structured interviews will be scheduled for sometime in April. If thats the case, then it sounds like they are trying to speed this process right along which is always good news.

At what point in the process is the medical exam? Is it typically one of the last things in the hiring process? I may need Lasik, and I want to be past the three month post-op mark prior to the medical.
