Pertaining to the BI, they may or may not let you know that your BI has started. In a perfect world your personal interview would be conducted first, but unfortunately this is usually not the case. There are numerous factors that determine when certain things are done during the BI process. This is mostly due to multiple offices handling parts of the BI. Now, if you have worked, lived and went to school in the same general area that you are currently in for the past seven to ten years, then the same investigator will most likely handle most of your BI, and would probably conduct your personal interview first. If this is the case for you, I would wait until you are contacted by the investigator. It's always hard to say when to let your employer know about the possibility of you leaving, specially when nothing is ever for sure until you graduate from FLETC. Eitherway, I would definitely let your employer know before they show up to talk to your employer. One way you can know that your BI has started is to monitor your crdit report. OPM will run you credit at the beginning stages of the BI process (even though the USMS already have), before work is assigned to the field. I met with my BI first we sat down and he interviewed me and then talked everyone he wanted so I guess it is up to you man when you want to tell them. I still would wait until all the medical stuff was over with.

Has anyone heard anything solid about the pay rates? Is it still five or more years till 1811 status and GS11 and LEAP? I have heard a couple different rumors that they were changing that.

Either way I still going for it.

I think it is 3 to 1811 and 5 to journeyman. I am sure there are some that know better than me as I don't pay too much attention to those things these days (not to mention that it can be hard to keep up with them always changing things lately).

Not bad. Still kinda bummed that I had to drop out of the region 2 hiring for USMS, but I'll be taking part in the region 1 frenzy coming up soon.

I got my CO yesterday as well. I called today for the medical and just received the 12 page medical exam form. Congrats to all.

Quick question for all those who are well entrenched in the region 2 hiring - are you all expected to be hired into region 2, or will there be any room for requesting a duty location outside region 2?

THe hiring is all within the respective region. Presumably, you will have to wait 3 years to request an OPref transfer.
