Here's a hypothetical situation for those in the know:

If I get hired on by the FBI or DEA, I'm worried about letting the word get out. I have certain family members who would broadcast the news over facebook and twitter so fast that it would reach halfway around the world in 30 seconds or less.

I'm concerned about OPSEC issues and having somebody try to track me or my family down, like maybe someone that I cause to become a defendant.

I'm thinking of telling my family that I work for "the government" if I am lucky enough to get the job, without going into any details and telling them that I can't talk about it if pressed.

    Any thoughts?

Hey bud im a local cop, not a Fed. But first thing is first worry about getting hired before you start driving yourself crazy with all of the possible "dangerous" scenerios that can come with the job.
As far as being employed by the Federal Government I would "guess" the problems you would run into with your job/position in law enforcement being known throughout the land lol wouldnt be a major issue. You would have More problems as a local cop, i told my wifey kindly to Not post pics Tons of pics of me and her on her facebook. Because we both grew up here in the area and now i work here as a cop. I see people i lock up in the grocery store or some other place on a Weekly basis and somtimes she is with me. Everyone knows you when you are local, High school dirt bags, local repeat offenders, and all the local shi#heads come up and act as if your long lost friends lol or a New informant of the department lol. I tend to not have any real problems with it, but hey thats why you can usually carry off duty, goes with the job. As far as federal like i said you can put a Kind word out to the family but as a federal agent i wouldnt worry yourself crazy about it. And getting the job first will probably drive you crazy enough. good luck.

Ok, first of all, you cannot come on RP and claim to be an LEO without being verified. Seek out verification. Most cops that I know, have enough contact with feds to have someone that they know who can answer these types of question in person.

Further indicators that have me wondering about the veracity of your being an LEO: Most any LEO would know how stiff the competition is in getting into the field, let alone the federal 1811 realm. With that said, the dorm and bathroom would be the last thing a real candidate would be worrying about (at least until they were hired and en route to Quantico).

I hope your grammar and spelling in your second Language is better than your English.

It won't do you any good to be fluent in another language if that's a representative sample of your English communication.

And as mentioned above, you need to contact a moderator via PM with your name and department info so we can verify that you are a police officer.

JesseDPD- Since I was in your position a few years ago, I am going to give you some helpful info instead of knocking you down and ridiculing your post like some others. Yes, the dorms at the DEA academy do have bathrooms in each room. You will share a room with another classmate of the same sex. There is plenty of privacy and I found that the academy was much more laid back than the previous police academy that I went to about six years prior to attending the DEA academy.

As far as your background, we are dying for spanish speakers on our job. If you speak Spanish, are currently a cop with a good track record, and don't mind being relocated then I would encourage you to apply. Moreover, I would say that you have a very strong chance of being hired depending on successfully completing all phases of the hiring process. I hope this helped and feel free to ask any other questions. I will try to check in on the site so I can help you out with your questions.

Not trying to step on anybody's egos, but I get annoyed when people ask questions and don't get a decent answer. Try and remember when you were trying to get on a job, I know I had a lot of stupid questions. Oh yeah, I really don't come on here all that often so I never bothered verifying my employment as a SA. Take it for what it's worth I guess.

    Local Tin,

While I appreciate that you may think it's unneccessary to get verified here if you don't post often, our site's rules still require that anyone who implies or outright states they are a LEO be verified: http://www.realpolice.net/forums/for...rum-rules.html (details found in the "Registering a User Name" paragraph).

I've sent you a PM, the verification process is very simple and painless, and I'll be glad to help you knock it out. It also grants you access to our LE-restricted forums for discussions best kept off the forums available to the general public. Please follow up with the PM I sent you and I'll promptly get you verified. Thanks!
**Visiting/New LEO members: please review the following link for further information on our LEO verification process (which also grants access to our LE-restricted forums for networking and discussions that are LE-sensitive): LEO Verification Details **

No one here has a problem answering questions but when you see questions like the above it makes you wonder. If you want to answer the question feel free.

As to the not here often part, with 10 replies in 3 years I can believe it.

This site seemed to have some good activity in the past so I thought I'd give it another try with my question.

    Greetings,

First time poster long time reader! I applied with the DEA during their last vacancy announcement. I've received the conditional offer, passed the written test, passed the panel interview, and passed the PT test. I was wondering if anyone here might have thoughts regarding the success rate for individuals that have made it through these steps. I have a year of LE experience and a year of other relevant non LE experience. I also have a Master's Degree. The only steps I have left are my poly, psych, and background. Do most applicants that make it to the end of the process get hired, or do they rot on the waiting list? Thanks for any input you guys may have.
