    Current 0080's - A question

    Greetings Ladies & Gents:

As usual, thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my posting – the information gained on this site is always extraordinarily worthwhile. A quick question for those currently serving as “gun-carrying” 0080’s:

Can you briefly describe your weapons policy? (24/7, home to work only, or only for specific times?)

Current 0080 here, seeking to create a white paper (if you will) regarding weapons usage; seeking to find justifications, examples of other agencies in similar situations, and other experiences that you may have had. Any assistance that you might be able to offer would be greatly appreciated.

If you’d prefer to discuss this offline, please send me a private message and I can provide you with my official government email address.

    D.

0080 is a White-Collar Miscellaneous Occupation code for a Security Administrator. What it is and what they do is unknown to me. I think polygraph guys and Security Specialists fall under this category. That's just what I've garnered from doing a quick search on USAjobs.

Being an adminstrator, is there any enforcement responsibilities? Would that not be a "requirement" for articulating a need for a firearm?

    I don't know... just asking.

FPS has 0080 Law Enforcement Security Officers (LESO). They are uniformed law enforcement officers with additional responsibilites of Physical Security Specialist. Their are few agencies that use 0080's as law enforcement officers. FPS added Physical Security training to the basic police officer training and created the LESO, 0080's. They journey up to GS 12.

I have been in the system for 15 years, as a 0083. With the exception of FPS, most 0080 do not have weapons carry where I work. They are authorised in emergencies only. however, to be honest, they deal mostly as Phy Sec duties and counter intell duties. DTRA has gone to trying to arm thier 0080's. If you PM I will give you my contact there. I have heard that there is a plan to combine 0080 and 0085's to make a LESO type position within the exec branch.
I'ld like gansta rap more if it wasn't about killing people like me!

The Journeyman level is GS-12 & I've never heard of them

The thing that gets me is that USBP & CBPO's are only Journeyman GS-11
