BPA & CBPO Locations

I'm testing for a BPA tomorrow in San Francisco. I'm curious as to what area's are the most coveted for new recruits. Obviously, I'm putting the cart before the horse, but if I did land a spot, I'd like to go to San Diego. I'm to understand you make a wish list and they put you where they need you, but is SD highly coveted?

I also plan on applying for CBPO when the job annoucement opens up. Are there many openings in the SF Bay Area for these positions? And is there any idea how many positions they are planning to hire?

You get to choose an area. If San Diego is where you want to go then you have a really good chance of getting it. Mostly only people from California want to go to San Diego.

I got to select a region when I registered for the test. You might be offered a position in that region (pending the needs of the G). When my friend was offered a BPA job this last summer he was given two options at the time of offer - but I don't belive he ever got to submit a wish list - just a sector preference.

As far as CBP/OFO goes, I'd say the chances of getting picked up for the SF Bay area as a CBPO hire are pretty good if that's where you want to be.

just applied today. there wasn't any listings in the sf bay area. it was all for the southern border. any ideas here? is it stictly what they list, or are they open to moving you to a higher metropolitan area? like posted elsewhere, i'm young, single, have no wife or kids to tie me down so i'll go to timbuktu to get a job (ie ill go where the work is), but i'd like to be near the family.

And oddly enough I'd go there if it'd get me out of Detroit (and the wife would move)!!! So what does that make Detroit? Just "skid"?

There is no wish list. When you signed up for the test, you picked a state of preference. If you selected the People's Republic of Kalifornia, and finish the hiring process before the hiring push is over (detailed academy instructors are already being sent home early), you will very likely get a call for a station in the San Diego or El Centro Sector.

Why won't the Mrs. go to San Diego? She went to school there. With her growing up as a navy brat she should feel right at home.

?????? She won't go south. I tried to get her to go to Reston or Herndon (sp?) where we would only be there for 3 years and leave as GS13, bust back to a GS11 modified and BAM. But no, she won't go!

It's strictly what they list. You might talk your way into another spot listed under this announcement, but you're not likely to get anything not listed.

Supposedly there's a new nationwide announcement coming out in the spring.
If a new announcement does come out, get in touch with MHC about changing your geographical preference to wherever in Cali you want.

The new nationwide announcement is coming out in March. I just did that recruiting push at the mall this past weekend, and man I hope we don't get the same people I saw there. One guy was 5150, but took every piece of paper, handout, trinket, and spoke gibberish to every officer there for 2 hours. Another guy was mall security who despite being on the clock working stayed at our tables, and slowly began creeping behind until he was standing beside us handing out information. The best was the young man who told our Chief that since he was "majoring" in CJ that he needed to be utilized on SWAT immediately upon his return from the academy!!!:D

Maly are you Border Patrol or the Customs guys (like Chewy)?

I'm a bit confused considering a large hiring push for the west coast with the customs guys just occurred. Is it happening again, this time for the whole country, or different agency?
