    Revenue officer positions

A friend who is an IRS manager advised me they are hiring Revenue Officers for many locations across the U.S. This is a field collection position which involves investigating and collecting delinquent taxes, using leins, levies, and seizures. Any four year degree or qualifying experience or combination thereof is required. There is no age limit; it is not a covered position. I worked with some of these guys years ago and back then many had law enforcement or military experience. It's a tough job: no gun, will travel. But many have used it to qualify for an eventual 1811 position. It's posted on usajobs.gov. Type in Revenue Officer.

Many have used the revenue officer position to get a position as an 1811 with IRS-CI? Does the experience as a revenue officer take the place of college classwork in accounting and other related classes?

    RO to 1811

The RO position does not take the place of required accounting and business courses for IRS-CI, although there are many former ROs in CI. Other agencies do recognize the RO experience as qualifying experience for their 1811 positions (but most still require the four-year degree). I worked with former ROs who were 1811s at FBI, ATF, IRS Inspection (now TIGTA) and other IGs.
