Thoughts on 2009 hiring? A federal freeze or nothing to worry about?

Since it's almost 2009, could I get some opinions on what 2009 might look like in terms of federal 1811 hiring? Since the economy is so bad, are current 1811s staying in their jobs, meaning less openings for new hires? Perhaps the huge financial mess means that the FBI will want to pick up lots more agents with numerical/computer/law skills to investigate the countless crimes in the mortgage and banking industries?

Any ideas or predictions? How are things looking in your agency? Any rumors?

    And Happy New Year!

I can't see much of a difference on the way. Unless Obama makes some drastic changes one way or another, I think it will remain about the same. Usually federal hiring freezes don't last long anyway.

Is there an upcoming hiring freeze? I've heard rumors, but nothing concrete.

It may not be calendar year 2009 yet, but fiscal year 2009 began back in October, so federal hiring (for 1811 positions or otherwise) has been going on for a couple months now.

People staying in their jobs has little to do with new hiring. It has much more to do with people retiring and budget allotments for new personnel (i.e. money to hire X number of new agents).

I work for DoD, so there's been rumors that there may be cuts across the board with a new democrat in office, but nothing official or in writing yet. Time will tell, as even us in government don't have a crystal ball.

Good as far as I can tell, but I don't work in the hiring/recruitment for my agency, so I'm not privy to the latest intel on what's coming down the pipe for new hires.

    Only what I said above.
