CBPO Detroit metro airport or the Bridge?

Ive recently been given the choice between metro Detroit airport and the Ambassador Bridge. I'm trying to weigh out the pros and cons of each location. Any input would be appreciated. I have to give them my decision tomorrow. Thanks!

Based upon what I know, airport. Although you'll be dealing with more foreign languages, you'll be inside most of the time and I think you'll have more interesting stuff.

I haven't seen Chewy on the board for a while but I'll bet he'd know.

I tried to reply to your PM but it says you have selected NOT to recieve them. Go to your "User CP" and on the left go to "Setting and Options" and click on "Edit Options" then scroll down to " Messaging & Notification" and click on the box under "Private Messaging" called "Enable Private Messaging".

PM me when you've done that and I'll send my reply.

We deal with a lot of different languages at the border too. The airport is frequently easier because you can usually get a translater from the airline... or just yell louder!

The border is acutually the place you get more interesting and exciting stuff. Mainly because we get far more drugs and a lot more people with weapons, warrants and fighters. I guess it's the fact they've been sitting on a plane for hours and already been stripped of any weapons but people at the airport are rarely fighters, usually they are tired, stiff and just whine a lot! :D

I haven't been around a lot because I've been working a lot and because I was kind of ticked off at some people and just got tired of the stupidity or hatred. I'll be around a little more as time goes on and as my time allows. I miss some of you though;):p

I just realized I'm the guy who I used to make fun of years ago. I always heard the veterans who used to say how a good cop never got cold or wet. I used to think that was BS as I loved to stay busy. Now I'm the guy who is telling someone how to stay warm and dry.

We don't get as much of the good stuff because we have so many new officers they don't know what to look for and miss a lot. Scary at times. And with Delta taking over Northwest we're probably going to lose the airline interpreters since Delta doesn't employ interpreters. It probably won't make a difference since Northwest has cut back so much you can never find one who speaks a language you need anyway. And don't even try to find an Australian interpreter when you need one (you would be surprised how many newbies fall for that one:D).

Actually I think they should go back to the way things used to be - officers should be allowed to transfer back and forth from the border to the airport on a regular basis.

Thanks for everyone’s input. I think im going with the bridge for the overtime opportunities. I just hate the idea of being stuck in a booth all the time.

That's our life. It sucks but if you desire more "real" police work you should apply for a city department or try for agent or IEA or something. Your life with CBP will be in a booth or at a counter no matter where you go!

I completely agree with that... I don't know anything positive that came out of making the airport it's own port other than lazy arse people who don't want to work overtime get to hide out for their career!

No, its not that. Thinking about the last few days in Michigan dropping to the single digits, the airport was looking better. Those boths are heated, right?

If you want to call it heat. As I remember it, the heaters in the booths at the bridge barely worked (when they worked at all) and don't forget, you have to have the window and/or door open to talk to people.

This is completely untrue. I have only spent a total of 3 hours at a counter and none in a booth. Of course I've only been at my port for a little over 6 months and it is a small seaport with CET as the entry level position. I have sat in a lot of trucks.:D
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.
