Is it wrong to apply knowing that I'll only accept a handful of locations?

I don't think that moving across the country is realistic for me as an applicant to many 1811 positions. I live within a couple of hours of a very major city, and I live in a smaller city with a field office. There's also another field office two hours away in the other direction.

The wife says she'll move wherever, but based upon past performance, I don't think she will.

I know asking "what are my chances at getting hired at a particular location" is stupid, so I won't ask. But I will ask whether it's dishonest to apply knowing that the vast majority of possible locations will not be suitable?

Following up on that question, at what point in the hiring process for the major agencies (FBI, DEA, USSS, USMS, ATF, etc.) do you find out where you will be posted?

    Thanks.

It's not wrong at all. Know that only a few agencies hire you to a specific location, meanign there is a good chance that you will have no idea where you will be asssigned until you are almost through the academy.

Some agencies don't tell you where you'll be stationed until you're about to graduate from the academy. Others tell you where they'll send you when they call to make you a job offer. You probably should give that some serious thought before you turn in your application.
