    Crown Vics for feds?

All my local police and state police ride around in Crown Vics (or "Police Interceptors"). I passed two unmarked cars on my way into work, both of which had the discrete lights in the front and rear windows. I believe they were Dodge Avengers (or some other lower-end Dodge model.) Any chance these would have been fed cars, or do feds have the Crown Vics too?

Could have been anybody. Different agencies drive different cars (at local, state and federal levels). If it's unmarked, no way to tell you who it was.

I've seen just about every vehicle you can imagine as a fed car. I've seen a 1980's AMC Gremlin which was still in use up until 3 years ago, it may be still in use.

I've patrolled in a 17 passenger Dodge Van, Dodge Intrepid, Chevy Tahoe and I once wrecked an Oldsmobile Aurora in a low speed.....very low speed chase. I've seen Crown Vics, Impalas and military bases that use Toyotas, Ford Rangers, and cushmans.

Some of us get to pic out g-rides. My agency, in general, gets a little of everything. However, there are very few Crown Vics out there in our fleet. Some districts do like them, though, but that is not the norm.

CV's are pretty much a COP CAR anymore. Not the best undercover ride on the planet. Ford brought the Taurus back and with it's 265 hp V6 option , its a pretty fast car.

And although the Impala police package comes with a 3.9 V6 ( 242 hp) , the V8 model is rated at 310 hp but isn't a police package. But that doesn't mean that it just cant be purchased by a LE agency.

Same with the Trailblazer SS. Another 5.3 or is it a 6.0 V8 ? and it is fast.

Same here. We usually start our GSA purchase process by clicking the the "Extreme Off-Road Package" option, unless something different is needed for a towing application, extended length, etc. Currently, a lot of our guys have the Dodge Power Wagon.

Uncle Sam has a vast range of vehicle requirements for law enforcement purposes. In MOST cases, the appropriate vehicle is acquired..... In my case, a Crown Vic would be totally useless, but my F-150 is quite appropriate.

So, to answer the initial posters question, yes, the feds use Crown Vics when needed, but sometimes another vehicle design is more appropriate for the application.;) Were those two un-marked vehicles feds? Who knows.
