For ICE/DRO, you guys have no customs functions, but in ICE/OI, we've maintained our traditional customs investigative functions.

We still respond to POE calls, to include tunnels, bridges and airports. We still conduct background investigations on Customs brokers, handle traditional customs smuggling violations, child pornography, financial, etc, etc, etc.

Remember, while DRO is all immigration all the time, OI is some immigration some of the time. We wear both hats.

Also a few other's I just thought of:

    That I know have K-9's

    US Capitol Police
    FBI Police
    AMTRAK Police (Quasi-Federal)
    NIH Police/Protective Services
    Smithsonian Protective Services

    That may have K-9's

    Indian Affairs Police
    Tennesse Valley Authority
    Bureau of Prisons
    Pentagon Police
FBI - Maybe cadaver or article search dogs; probably not patrol work though
NPS Park Rangers- Maybe more SAR type dogs though

    Other Quasi-Federal Agencies

    Washington DC Metro Police
    DC Protective Services Police
Metro Transportation Authority Police (DC, MD, VA)
Any of the Major Railroads (Although not federal they do have multi-state authority)

For those wondering how I found this; go to one of the police car websites on the federal page and just start looking for K-9 cars.

The Beagle Brigade are dogs used by the Department of Agriculture to sniff out food products being smuggled into the country. Although they are on this list, I'm not sure if they are handled by USDA LEO's or USDA Import Inspectors (same uniform, different authority).

    Security/Intel

The Intelligence Agencies, such as the CIA and NSA, also have K-9's; however they're geared more towards security enforcement of facilities than law enforcement. However, I have read before that the CIA K-9 team is sometimes outsourced to do bomb screenings and searches for major events.

Get in line... I've been with Customs/CBP for 12 years and trying to get a K-9 Handler position for 10 of those... It's easier for the Port to hire someone from elsewhere and bring them in so they do that rather than allow Officers already at the Port to get it then have to fill thier spot. Management SUCKS!

The "Beagle Brigade" are handled by US CBP Agriculture Specialists. They are non-armed specialists that run the agriculture dogs. Agriculture has Beagles and Labs now. The Beagles mainly run airport passengers and the Labs sniff for food items in vehicles and cargo at the landborders. Some of our K-9's can better answer this but I think they are still seperate Ag Specialists that run them, I don't think they are 1895's...

It's gone over to CBP because we are still ACTUALLY Customs... You Immigration guys stick to rounding up illegals and leave the REAL Customs work to us.

    Beagle Brigade ROCKS!!!

Oh, and not all of us like being a stamp monkey... we're just stuck here!

    Chewy:

When did it go over to CBP from USDA? I always remember it being USDA inspectors/ag specialists?

I guess I need to get a copy of "Guide to Careers in Federal Law Enforcement" written after 9/11 and DHS's creation
