ICE and age 37 cutoff

Well, my buddy explained it to me and it seemed to have something to do with him being in the process so long and THEM screwing something up. Who knows. AllI know is that he turned down a job with the DEA for his evil, devil-incarnate of an ex-wife and this was a great thing to happen to him after all that crap went away (the ex, not the DEA). :D

Well, I can't say that itis the way things are generally done, but I can tell you that I PERSONALLY know a case where someone was hired on to ICE after his 37th birthday. My buddy is just hitting his 1st anniversary with ICE. He was in the process for a very long time (can you say Legacy Customs?). When all was said and done, he started the acadmey just before he turned 38. He was simply advised that he had to work until he is 58.

Also just to chime in again, there is a guy on another forum who turned 37 well over a year ago and just got the call from ICE. He had received his TO a few months before his 37th birthday. So it does in fact appear to be true that you just need to get your TO before your 37th.

I guess ICE has obtained some sort of waiver of OPM 6c retirement rules, of the nature that the Border Patrol has, and that the Federal Air Marshals had when they were first created.

Were they hired for ICE Office of Investigations or ICE Detention and Removal Office? I know for a fact ICE DRO has the authority to hire up to age 40. I don't think ICE OI has that authority.

I know for a FACT that you can start at FLETC after you turn 37. I got my tentative offer BEFORE I turned 37 (ICE/OI 1811) and started at FLETC two months before turning 38.

As I was told, as long as you receive your conditional offer before turning 37 you're good to go. :D

To date myself (and I don't even remember what year it changed), when I hired on, the maximum age cutoff was 35 years old. :D
