    federal prison

Some one i know threw my cousin was just recently arrested by the feds. Now i dont get into there business but, the feds are asking him to basically tell on his friends. I just want to know if he should tell, because isnt he looking at federal time. And i believe i is not the same as a nyc detective charging him with a crime. he will go to a federal prison not a state prison.

You are going to have to do a little better job of explaining what he got arrested for and who arrested him for anyone here to tell you whether he is going to federal prison or not.

I can tell you this. Most people who are arrested federally do cooperate because the federal sentencing system is set up to dramatically reward those who do cooperate and to really lower the hammer on those who do not.

    LOL

And then compound what Group9 said with the fact that the feds have ~97% conviction ratio and inmates serve 85% of their sentenced time (not 50% like most states).

BTW, 2 of the 3% that get not-guilty are due to screw-ups by us feds. You are usually behind the 8 ball by the tiem feds throw a pair of cuffs on you.

    explained better

I know that he used to sell drugs and possibly comitted and murder. there was a joint task force with the fbi and brooklyn narcotics. they got every who was in on it. but the boy i am talking about some how got away. i know that he had ran virginia, and stayed there for a while. then for some reason he came back to new york and i got caught by the fbi. now he is being held by the feds. they would like him to help them out by telling them something usefull. the feds say that they have evidence against him, something on video. But the boy is saying that he doesnt want to be a rat.

I want to know should he just tell them something, or help them out in some way. Because is it true that if you dont want to help the feds or any detective out, and they have evidence against you they will just lock you up any way. Because by helping them out a little bit makes there job easier.

I think his attorney will probably be explaining Rule 5(k) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure to him. He will tell him that he is going to serve 85 percent of his sentence in federal prison and that parole has been abolished, and if he wants to get out while he is still young enough to remember what it was like to not be in prison, he better start talking.
