Anyone have any info or experience with them? I think I remember seeing someone post about them but my searches have come up empty.

I wasn't aware there was a FBI "Police Force". Are you referring to the FBI tactical team, or the local LE's who work with the FBI in conducting raids, and such?
They patrol the FBI and DEA academy grounds at Quantico, and are in charge of security there.

It's a 0083 series federal job. We used to have someone on board who worked for them, now I can't remember who.

We do have a FBI Police Officer on here. He is around lurking now and then. He is based out of NYC.

The FBI do in fact have their own police force. They are security based would be the best description.
They post around DC HQ, NY Division, Quantico and W. Virginia.
They are NOT 6c covered.
They have had opportunity to travel to cover/assist in security at the Super Bowl, Olympics and political venues. (I would assume the more senior officers are the ones to travel the most, if called to do so).
You can go to youtube.com and search for FBI Police and John Walsh narrates an FBI Police recruiting video.
I am sure an actual FBI Police officer can comment more.
If you are looking for active law enforcement this is not the job for you. It is a security police position. I believe they do get their share of arrests but from what I have heard they are somewhat rare occurrences.

The position is 90-95% standing post with an occassional TDY detail for the Super Bowl, All-Star Game, etc. And even when you are detailed to these events you are usually working in the JOC/IOC checking access IDs or performing roving perimeter patrols. THIS IS NOT A JOB FOR SOMEONE WHO IS LOOKING TO DO POLICE WORK.
Training is hit or miss, FBI Police officers are not permitted to participate in any collateral duties (hazmat, evidence response team, SWAT). Quantico, FBIHQ and CJIS West Virginia have K-9 but you need to have at least 3-5 years on. Most of the training is in-house with the occassional oppurtunity for an outside class.
All FBI Police duty stations are currently on 8 or 10 hour tours depending on where management puts you and your seniority. DO NOT COUNT ON OVERTIME !!!! As this is variable based on the budget and the state of the nation in the FBI at the given time.
Working for the FBI Police DOES NOT COUNT as law enforcement experience as far as the FBI is concerned for hiring into a special agent position. You must sign a two year commitment and the Police Unit will not let you transfer to another position within the FBI prior to that commitment being up.
As far as the work enviroment, everyone treats you nicely except FBI Police management who basically wants you to stand there, look pretty and don't get involved unless you absolutly have to. If I had to do it all over again and moving was an option I would look at U.S. Park Police, USSS UD, US Capital Police, Pentagon Force Protection or Federal Protective Services only because they offer oppurtunities other than standing post.
Check out www.passmanandkaplan.com for a little more info about the class action suit the FBI police officers have brought against the FBI for wage discrimination.

Any other questions feel free to PM.

Hey Steve,
I am an undergrad looking into working for the FBI someday. People told me to apply to the FBI police and then it would be easier for me to move up into a law enforcement career. It sounds like it is not all what it is made out to be based of your experience. What advice would you give me if I wanted to pursue a job for that agency or another. I know you have to work your way from the bottom up in the law-enforcement agencies. After your 2 year contract is up, what do you plan on doing, if you dont mind me asking? Will it be easier for you to apply for a better position in the FBI since you already sort of work there? I know you said look at the U.S. Park Police, USSS UD, US Capital Police, Pentagon Force Protection or Federal Protective Services. Based on your experience, are there any specific job related fields for the FBI that you recommend to work for instead of the FBI police?
Thank you for your help,
Steve Choromanski
I figured I would give you my 2 cents if you wanted it. In traditional policing, you start at the bottom and work your way up, however in federal policing, you start at the point you want to start at. FBI police is a completely different animal from a special agent. You can apply directly to become a special agent or you can apply to the FBI police. Though they work for the same agency, they are two completely different animals and one does not transfer to the other. If you want to be an agent, apply for an agents position. If you want to be a police officer, apply for the police officer position.
