    NSA Police

Question for any current or former NSA Police Officers here-

What is it like to work for the NSA Police?

I sent in my application last week and just finished talking to a recruiter, everything he told me sounded almost too good to be true! I'm looking for unbiased opinions here, anyone able to help?

Edit: For some reason, when i searched the threads for "NSA Police" nothing came up, however, a Google search of the same phrase, popped up this thread http://forums.realpolice.net/showthread.php?t=69140.
Anyone have anything else to add?

    Actual conversation with suspect
Suspect: Why am I under arrest?
    Me: For posession of CDS.
Suspect: Man, it wasn't CDS! It was E pills!

I don't work for NSA, but did have a colleague at a previous job who did. From what I understand, NSA Police is basically much more security-type work than law enforcement. I'd be real sceptical if a picture was painted by the recruiter that deviates far from security work with other duties for more senior officers. They do go through the Uniformed Police Training Program academy at FLETC, just like other federal LEOs. What you need to understand is that federal uniformed law enforcement is most times more physical security work, especially when you're just starting out. A couple of exceptions I can think of are U.S. Park Police and Border Patrol, but the vast majority of uniformed agencies (NSA Police, CIA Security Protection Officers, Secret Service UD, Capital Police, Federal Reserve Police, FBI Police, etc.) are primarily security work, at least initially.

The recruiter did say that the job was mostly security as opposed to actual LE work. I'm also exempt from the FLETC training since I am Maryland Police Certified already.

    Mike,

I understand you would be happy to be exempt from the FLETC training, but it would benefit you if they offered it to you to go. I have a friend that works for DLA Police out in the D.C. area and they were going to take his Army MP school if he did not want to go. He told me the chief asked him if he wanted to go to FLETC. He talked to me and he was not going to go. I told him he would miss out on a great opportunity and would kick his self if he did not go. So he went and graduated a couple of months ago. We talked and he has so many more opportunities since pretty much every uniformed federal agency in D.C. requires FLETC-UPTP....and thats just my opinion..

Not to side track the conversation, however I wanted to ask a quick application question. I applied for the NSA Police position a while back, and about a month ago I received an e-mail from them explaining that my application was still being looked at and compared against other candidates. I understand that many agencies (if not all) may have a long application process, has anyone had any experience with the NSA one? In addition what to expect next if I am considered.

    Thanks!

I had applied previously several years ao and never heard anything from them period. If its been a few weeks since you got any correspondence from them, I would call and see where you stand. They may just be waiting to see how much initiative you have.
