Do you have to apply through the F.O. in which you reside? I spend 6 years as a TFO only to leave last year for a spot with ICE. Im pretty tight with the recruiter in that F.O and would rather process from that office. I think i know the answer to this question, but just wanted to be clear.
There is a way to get around that, but yes, you are supposed to apply through the office where you live. But, call the recruiter you know, and he can probably help you out at the office where you are now as far as getting a real voice. You should look into it. Everything I am hearing is that this announcement was tailored for TFO's.

What is a TFO??????????????????????????
Task Force Officer. Local/state investigators who work on a DEA task force. Added to the list of acronyms: http://forums.realpolice.net/showthread.php?t=35665

My new hero!
Must stop using acronyms. Let's see, how can I remember that? I know.

Thanks
Just received the call back from the New Orleans office. They said they are swamped with applicants. He told me he would mail me the app. materials.
FYI
I've had trouble getting in touch with anyone at either the Field Office in my area, and the Regional Recruiter in Atlanta. How long did it take you to reach one of them?
All the FO's are swamped right now. Depends on the office but you should hear back. It appears most are doing phone screening or orientations before handing out application materials.
This is gonna be one of the most competitive processes ever. College grads, experienced local/state narcotics detectives, TFO's, outside FLEO's etc.
this is what the Chicago Division website states that they are looking for.
"DEA is currently seeking individuals interested in becoming DEA Special Agents who are currently in possession of, or who will graduate within 90 days with, a Bachelor Degrees in the areas of FINANCE, ACCOUNTING, or ECONOMICS (minimum 12 hours of accounting in the ECONOMICS degree). These skills will be utilized to assist DEA in fulfilling its mission to seize and forfeit the assets derived from illicit drug trafficking."
When I call the alternative number it states that they are in a hiring freeze. Is this all they are looking for or are they willing to take a look at anyone. Just wondering if they hadnt updated their info on the website and voicemail.

I talked to my local recruiter and she said she would be sending me a packet. Does anyone know if that is supposed to be an electronic e-mail packet or one I receive in the mail? If it is mail, I will keep waiting another week - if electronic, I probably need to contact her again to follow up.
Thanks.
Just wondering if anyone else on this site is waiting on a hiring approval from DEA. I am done with the process and awaiting a final hiring decision from Headquarters. Didn't know if anybody else on this site is in the same boat??
