    The Art of Killing Trees

I've been in OSI for a while as an SA and today it just hit me...."How much damn paperwork do I deal with in a day". I think I hit a wall today, just like... OMG!!! Are you kidding me? Especially when I have to close out a case. I'm wondering, am I the only one? Just curious to see what is your preceived ratio of paperwork vs field work? I say as an OSI guy mines has to be 95/5.... What say u? Also what advice do you have for dealing with it?

Paperwork is the Federal verson of the Holy Grail. I do EASILY 1/3 the paperwork that the local FBI guys do on a given case.

It really pisses them off. :D
Don't try and outweird me, I find weirder things than you in my breakfast burrito.

That's BS:D I do 1/3 more than the local FBI guys. Goodness gracious. I would love to do more proactive field work but it's rough sometimes when you have to document everytime you fart....

    Paperwork

I don't remember much about the OSI paperwork, but the army CID agents I worked with (I was MPI) wrote pretty comprehensive ROIs. Later, when I went with IRS, I found out was red tape really was! Our Special Agent Report was very thorough (and redundant), with multiple levels of review and approval. I would rate IRS as most paperwork, followed by Army CID, then the IG shops, then maybe ATF, although theirs was streamlined a few years ago; their old reports were a carryover from their IRS days. FBI usually just put their 302s in a folder and gave it to the AUSA. DEA - same with their 6s; they probably had the least paperwork and most time out of office, at least in my experience. This was a common topic of discussion among agents, and some of us made an effort to get out of the office at least once a day, if possible.
