USBP policy states that any and all outside employment must be approved, in writting, before the agent may accecpt the position. The only outside employment I've heard of USBP guys getting is something like a teacher or real estate broker but I've never seen it. Once I finish my masters I'm going to try and get an on-line teaching gig.

I would guess it's because you have a limited sense of humor.
The obvious juxtaposition of BPA and Coyote as opposite ends of the spectrum would make it ridiculous for one to be the other, or at least highly inappropriate.
Plus the fact that on a public law enforcement board I would so nonchalantly out a friend obviously engaged in illegal activity.
Is that explanation enough for you?
When I hang out with some of the cops I know, we joke about all kinds of horrible stuff. Chill.

At one of our in-services, we had a person from personnel get up and try and tell us we couldn't even volunteer to coach a little league team without permission. He did get hooted off the stage. :D

What's the problem? Working at Coyote Ugly is a good job. Dancing on the bars keeps you in shape for those long nights on the border, and the Texas/Southwest/Cowboy theme is appropriate. Is being a Coyote that bad? They even had a show about it, and a movie!

Maybe if GitmoVet's friend is a dude, that might be a little odd.

I'm pretty sure that the "coyote" reference BP is referring to is of a completely different nature (i.e. smuggling illegals). ;)

It makes so much more sense now!

So, ROS, here's a question relevant to the thread: on NCIS McGee had a second job as an author. He wrote a best selling book, loosely based on his adventures with the NCIS. Ever happen? I know at other FLEA's you have to retire first. How about just a novel that had nothing to do with federal agents?

Not sure. I plan to see if I can return to being an adjunct CJ instructor for a local college. Not sure what our policy is, other than we need mgt approval.

Ever watch "To Live and Die in LA" featuring that CSI dude William Peterson, and William Dafoe. That was a novel written by Gerald Petievich, a Secret Service Agent at the time the novel was published.
Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

He was finally pressured to quit according to a friend of mine who was in the Service and who knew him.

Another 1811 author was Paul Lyndsey, who wrote the novel "Witness to the Truth" while serving as an FBI agent.

"In 1992, FBI agent Paul Lindsay received commendation and a $600 incentive award from FBI director William Sessions for helping spearhead the capture of serial killer Benjamin Atkins. After writing this novel, Paul Lindsay -- a twenty-year veteran of the FBI -- became the victim of a vicious backlash. The Bureau threatened to fire Lindsay for insubordination, claiming he violated a company ban on accepting outside income."

I read the novel, having just transferred out of the FBI a couple of years before. I found it pretty authentic, and pretty rough, on FBI management. Most of the agents I knew wished they had written it. I know I do. :D
