    USSS Applicant

I didn't see a Secret Service thread so I thought I'd start one.

I had my initial interview today. Went well looks like. I'm being scheduled for the TEA exam.

The RAC also told me that this year they plan on hiring 106 SA. He said that is about average for any given year.

~I posted a similar comment on another board, but just saw your thread.

At one time, I thought about putting in for the USSS SA position, but remember reading that an agent is always gone from home, at least when compared to other federal agencies. Maybe that is because of the election year or maybe not, either way I assumed that I would never be home. Now, I'm debating on sticking an application in. I don't know if what I read was true or if I even remember it correctly. I already have a few irons in the fire; I don't want to overload myself.

Also, I passed the TEA for ATF back in January, so I think I should be good there. Feel free to direct me to a thread discussing Secret Service home life, etc. (I'm at the beginning stages of researching, so don't jump on me ;))

This number seems a bit on the low side, but it all depends on the budget.

I know when I was in training there were multiple SA classes and multiple UD at the same time. 106 newbies would be 4-5 classes for a FY, I thought they ran closer to 7-8.

The USSS is a great organization w/ quality people/training but the mission is what it is...protection w/ some investigation. It can be a killer on the family, I know a few UD guys who died because of the stress/hours. One fell asleep at the wheel (big reason they are trying to not short change as much but it still happens alot) and a few others took their own lives...it's not common but it does happen.

It's not an easy lifestyle...but some people love it.

    It all depends on priority.

Damn! That's pretty quick. Expect things to slow up a bit if you reach the BI portion, but so far, that's a pretty impressive timeline.

Tell me about it. And I have lived in numerous places with the army so I know mine will go like molasses in january. But the interview went very very well. I was expecting a more difficult panel but these guys were just some old country boys like myself. They all had similar backgrounds as me and gave feedback to my answers that I gave. If anyone has been to one of the USSS panel interviews, you know how many and how difficult all those questions they fire at you are. The panel made me feel about as relaxed as possible and answering the questions was alot easier because of that. They are scheduling me for a physical for next week.

Glad to hear it went well England. My TEA Exam is scheduled for this Thursday (9/11 of all dates). I was called two weeks after my app was put in for the initial interview and about a week after that I was scheduled for the written test. The senior agent advised me that the app process was around 6months. He advised it was a good time to be putting in for them. How soon did you hear back about your written exam (TEA) results?

I got my results after about 4 days I think. So far the process has been alot faster than I anticipated. I took the physical last friday. Doc said everything looks good but we'll see. Haven't heard anything back yet.

The math part sucked butts. I think I guessed on about 40% of it! I hope they were good enough "educated" guesses. That section of the test reminded me how much I hate math. I think I did well on the other two sections.

I had a study guide from the library, but unless you memorize the formulas, it didn't seem to help much. I'm sure I could have studied more, but we will know for sure within a week or so.

I bombed the math section too. But apparently I did well enough on the other sections that I passed. The lady who informed me of my passing score told me that alot of people bomb the math part.

    +1

When I took the TEA a few years ago for ICE I was really surprised I passed after taking that math portion.

From talking to the lady administering the test, she said that you had to score a minimum of 70% on each section, but I'm not sure if she was positive about it. If it is an overall average, I would definitely not be as worried.
