Anybody got any input on the bp? If things don't go well with some of these other agencies, I might do it myself. The trouble with the border patrol is that you have to live near the border.
Really though, is the hiring process any quicker? Do they teach you spanish?
What kind of input do you want? USBP is what you make of it. The biggest complaint I hear from people, myself included, is that USBP dosen't conduct investigations. That and the fact that USBP journyman level is GS-11 and Criminal investigator's journeyman level is GS-13.
Right now you can go through the process and be in the patrol in a matter of months. Yes, they teach you spanish.
This bring up a question. I'm in MA, do they have tests around here form time to time? I should probably just wait 'til I'm down in San Diego (moving) but was just curious. Along those lines, what is the likeliness of being assigned to the SD or SY POE?
Thanks!

You can take the test in any major city. You will get almost no say in where you get assigned. You get to give your three sector preferences, but I don't think they give any consideration to those preferences when they give you the job offer. My academy class had people from El Paso who were sent to Nogales, and people from Tucson who were sent to New Mexico. We had one guy from Las Cruces who went to Nogales. The next academy class behind us had a bunch of people going to Las Cruces. Why didn't they just wait a month and put him in the class that was going to Las Cruces?

That used to happen quite a bit. We had a guy in my class who requested Laredo and was told that there was not going to be a class going to Laredo for 4 - 6 months. So we're at the academy about 6 weeks and the next class showed up and guess where 3/4 of them were going? That's right Laredo, TX
From what I understand USBP is now really trying to place people close to where they want to go, just so people will take the positions. USBP is having a hard time recruiting all the people they've been mandated to hire.
OK, an Admin question...
I'm scheduled to take a compressed test on June 7th. After applying for the south, northern border positions opened up. I reappied and got a test date on the 4th. But that one is in ME and my compressed test is closer. The closing date for the North is the 9th.
I have been told by two different people (OPM) one that I have to take the ME test, the other that I can just take my compressed test. Anyone have a tie breaker answer for this? Flying to ME would be awfully expensive, when I can drive to Chicago and get my results in a day. I want to be considered for both north and south, although I'd prefer north.
