    FBI applicants

I have searched and there doesn't seem to be a consolidated thread for FBI applicants like there is for ICE, FAMS, etc...

I take the phase one test tomorrow morning at 9 am. Any last minute prep tips?

Also, I have browsed several forums and the message I get is that the FBI has the most difficult hiring process. So far, I have to say that they have been more responsive. I applied with the FAMS, USSS, and the FBI ( so far) The ICE SAC recruiter won't return my phone calls, so I haven't actually applied there yet. I interned with ICE about 8 years ago, when they were customs.

I received the email for the FAMS on March 9 th or 10th I think but have yet to receive a phone call. (I applied in Jan.) I also applied for the FBI in Jan and I got an email from the recruiter about a month ago scheduling me for phase I.

Anyway, anybody else in the FBI process. Let's hear where you are?

I called the AP about two months ago and he said they were still only looking at apps with I/T or Langurage critical skills. My application status on the website still says recieved.

All that information seems about right. I applied in May of 2007 and didn't get a letter for Phase I testing until October. I took the test in November 2007 and then didn't get the results until early January 2008. Then a few months later I got a letter that stated I was no longer actively being considered for the hiring process. The reasons stated were that Bureau was looking for IT and Language people (also Military Intel was considered a plus as well). So that was my short run at the FBI.

As a side note - when I took the test in November, the test was changed and the MATH section was taken off... so that is good news for all you who don't like math. (I only studied for the math section so that was a disappointment to me).

If you get on the FBI web site you can click on the video, It takes you through the steps and all the requirements that you need to have and know to successfully complete the different phases.

I will check the letter and post the exact language on here. The first letter that informed me I passed the test stated that a passing test score under the current system never expires. So I would assume that if the Bureau's needs changed then I could reapply and use my first test.

I am an esquire, in two states... (if that is even the proper use of the word?). I currently work for a judge, and plan on switching to the prosecutor's office while I wait to see how the ICE hiring process shakes out. I only got a JD because a federal LEO recruiter told me it was the way to go... I should have learned Arabic

I completed phase I testing today and I think I did pretty well. I won't know officially until I get the results of course, but I was confident in my selections on the test.

DPD, my back ground is a CJ bachelor's high GPA, 7 years military experience, 3 as a combat arms officer, combat leadership experience. I also have owned my own business for the past 3 years.

That about sums it all up. More to follow, I'll post later, gotta go to the kiddies soccer practice.

Not that the FBI isn't a solid agency and all, but have you considered applying for an agent position with military criminal investigative organizations (MCIO)? Army CID is primarily active-duty as opposed to civilian agents, but that's not the case with OSI, NCIS and CGIS (which range from ~50/50 to nearly all civilian). Plus, the MCIO's share duel missions of criminal investigations and CT/CI, similar to the Bureau. Might be something to consider as an option.

This is a section of the letter I received:

"In view of the large pool of highly qualified Special Agent candidates and the extremely competitive nature of the FBI's selection process, only the most competitive applicants are chosen for Phase II testing. Unfortunately, when your qualifiactions were recently compared to those of other applicant, you were not selected for further processing. As a result, your case is being placed in an inactive status at this time."

It goes onto say that if I gain further experience that would increase my competitiveness I can reapply for the Special Agent position and that I don't have to retake the first batter of tests.

So - I think that I would have to reapply to be considered even if the needs of the Bureau changed, I don't believe that I would automatically be called back even if I was what they were looking for in the future.

Also - they gave us the list of what they wanted when we took the Phase I test - Computers, Languages, Military Intel, or Counter Intel. As for me I have none of those.

PS - Good luck England, sounds like you have the experience to back you up.

I forgot to mention that I applied to the Bureau under the HRT recruiting deal. I don't know if that matters or not but I thought I would mention it.

ROS, I have thought about those and I probably will look into them. As long as I can secure an 1811 spot.

Glockpacker, I once received a letter like that in 2003 when I applied to the bureau the first time. They didn't even let me test back then. It really turned me off, it took me til about 4 months ago to try again, and with more agencies this time. I am having better luck so far. I figure if I don't get to phase II, I'll accept a parole officer position I applied for and I'll keep trying with other agencies and the bureau.

I have an interview with USSS on Thursday of next week.
