I was told at the phase I by the a/c that HRT and IT specialties are getting processed faster. I am neither, thus I expect a loooong wait but I'm hoping for a short one.

I'm applying with an IT background; will keep all my results posted as they arrive; our field office said nothing of any particular specialty being pushed through faster/ slower than others...

    FBI Eligibility Question

I've tried searching for this answer on the internet but nothing so far.

Does the FBI recognize a Canadian JD as eligible to apply?

    Thanks for any help.

    Cheers.

P.S.: Sorry if this is off topic.

    Can. JD

I will check into it closer - but my first response would be that it should be fine. Almost all government positions recognize foreign llb's so I would think a foreign JD should do the trick as well. If not - it certainly wouldn't hurt if you have taken the CA Bar (since that is the only State Bar you are eligible to sit for) so that you would then be a licensed attorney in the US. However, you and I both know it is not so much about "what" you learn while you are in Law School but the skills you pick up.

Have you asked your local recruiter??

I put in my application for Special Agent March 2008 got my test date in the mail for Phase I testing and took it May 2008. They have removed the math portion from the test. I called the office two weeks later for my results and PASSED. I was told with my degree (B.S.) I would go on to Phase II. Two months later they said I needed one more year of full time work experience. I don't have to re-test for Phase I since I passed, I can just call the office back once I want to get back into the application process.
During the Phase I testing they asked if anyone spoke a foreign language (other than French, German or Spanish). They mainly wanted middle eastern or Chinese dialects. One thing they did say is if you are prior military they do things differently in their "bootcamp". Pushups: your elbows come to a 90 degree angle to be counted (they said alot of military pushups are just quick "pumps" and would not be counted).

I have since applied to be a Texas State Trooper and think I will be very pleased with this career move.

Good luck and keep calling them (once every other month, you don't want to bug them either), they need to have your name fresh on their mind! It's a very long process (on average from start to finish it takes around 12 to 18 months) but if it is something you truly want then go for it.
