    Marine Interdiction Agent

Can anyone give me the lowdown on this position, daily routine, perks, cons, etc. I have read the website and what not, but I am looking for a little more. Do people like the job? Also, I believe it is covered for retirement, can someone verify? Is it competative to get on? I know I have a lot of questions, just answer what you can, thanks.

VERY COMPETITIVE! yes, its 12(d) covered. many love it and just as many hate it. being covered, your on a boat and have a take home vehicle are definite perks. they no longer attend CITP, which is a great way to lateral to an agent position and they have to hand their investigations over to the agents are a couple cons.

Are we talking about the CBP Air & Marine position?

If so then yes it's 6c. very competive, Journeyman GS-12. The few guys I've Spoke with all really like the position.

I know one guy (former USBP) who turned down an ICE CI position to take a CBP A&M position in Tampa.

Unhappy What are the licenses required for GS-11 and GS12?

What are the required Licenses for GS-11 listed in the Requirements and Evaluations page?

    gs11 requires a 6 pack.
gs12 requires a masters any tonnage.
Remember that this is a very competitive job just having a license may not be enough. You need to bring more to the table. Half of my office is former USCG the other half is former USBP.

And yet with my prior CG (BO, Coxswain etc) and my CBP/Customs time I still can't get the dang position... I'd kill people to get back onto the boats and now I'm resigned to spend the rest of my miserable career as a CBPO. Live isn't friggin fair!

    I'm surprised you don't qualify!!!

Don't feel bad we have a guy here in my station who has his 100 ton masters license (he was a tug boat capt before joining the patrol) and he was recently told he didn't qualify

BIG has a buddy who is a MIA in PR and he wants to jump ship (pun intended :D), to ICE/OI.

He's a former PA and became a MIA just prior to the merge, thus he completed CITP and was an 1811.

He called Minneapolis or Dallas and inquired about jumping over to ICE/OI and was told he wasn't qualified. Don't know how they figured that, BIG did say he was CITP qualified, didn't he?

BIG has since informed him he has to contact an ICE/OI recruiter, not the HRC, if he wants to be employed by ICE/OI.

Hey Chewy, have you ever considered DRO or have you passed the age limit?

    Hi to everyone:

I am interested in this job.

I am going to give a short backround of myself.

I have a bachelors degree in Marine Transportation, went to a Maritime Academy, also at the moment I hold a Thirds Mate Unlimited tonnage license, I have worked as a third mate on ships and I am one semester away from finishing Law School.

I have a couple of college hours in Criminal justice(+20) and I have been taking Maritime Law courses at Law School. Fluent in Spanish.

Experience on tug boats, and pleasure boats. Also was active in college with the old 44's Coast Guard boats ( Maintenance, handling training and part of the crew, all civilian).

I have seen that the position for MIA is very competitive and almost everyone is prior CG or is already in the federal system, I just wanted to get a feedback if I have real opportunities for that job.

Well, I just keep reading about the people that got the job and almost everyone is prior service or is already working for a federal agency.

It looks as if that is also a requirement.

Lets see what happens in a nearby future with that job then, thanks.
