I've worked for CBP for 11 years and desperatly tried to go to language training and Customs/CBP won't let me... It's funny how some jobs like BP require it but OFO won't let us even if we want to.

It's valid that MIA's will have to attend Spanish if you're going to FL or the SW Border. Sorry if I was vague. Not sure about getting canned should you fail, but it definitely wouldn't look good getting sent back to the office without the certificate.

I hope that's true. I know a guy at OBP HQ I think i'll send him an email and ask what he's heard. I do know that Chief Aguilar was pushing for the across the board GS-12's or even GS-13's.

Well i am here in the southwest border and going to an MIA station up north PA. So i dont know when they are going to send MIA's form the northern border to Spanish or if they ever will. If they do i think it would be a while.

I'm a legacy CI from Detroit. I started in 1998 and was trying to get some kind of language training but our agency was never really big on that kind of stuff... well, not really good on training of anykind actually :(

From what I hear you many need to learn it... I know the MIA's here get sent to P.R. and the Gulf Coast a lot during the winter when they aren't on the boats! I guess it beats sitting in the snow!

Well, I never used to... I always just told people I worked for the Ambassador Bridge Company but now that it appears I'm never getting out of Detroit I have to swollow my pride (and all hope I can ever do anything with my life) and just admit to it. It's like they say, once you can say it out loud it doesn't seem so bad... I think that's B.S. of course but at least I'm employed!!! Plus I took my Supervisors test so maybe I can get promoted

I dont know how accurate that is but even the CBP instructors at Glynco, Ga. FLETC are saying that it is more truth than not.
I've been thinking about this and the more I think about it the harder I find it to be true. Simple fact is that it would take an act of Congress to raise our GS level. I know there is a Bill in Congress to try and raise our GS level to journeyman GS-13's but I haven't heard anything about it lately.

I hear what youre saying. It would be nice for BP and OFO to get Journeyman 12's or 13's it would keep our numbers up and retain qualified people. Did you get a hold of your buddy that works at HQ about this rumor? Like i said here in the San Diego sectors and ports everybody is excited about the increase. We shall see what happens.

    chewy.
so you said that the MIA's when the lake is frozen gets sent to PR or the gulf coast. Are they mandated to go or by volunteer? If you know any of them could you ask for me.
