Ya, the A&M guys I work with (I work with the Air guys a lot and have worked with the Marine guys occassionally with Firearms and such) love their job. One of the AIO's here was an Inspector I worked with years ago and he loves it although he is trying to get more legacy Customs guys into it so he's not so outnumbered by the legacy BP :D

Something always has to give and as the years beat down on me I've just decided that I'm happy to be married and happy to have what I have. I'm glad to be employeed at all anymore and when I look at the overall horrible morale in Detroit I'm comforted by the fact that I'm only one of hundreds that would like to blow this place up (I'm only joking about that so don't friggin call my bosses !!! :mad. Things are changing which is always good and I like doing Firearms so that's a big plus. I think I'm well past my prime so if I could get a small port in Maine, VT, or NY someplace and just go hide until I retire I'll be happy. Life is what you make of it and sometimes you get stuck in the sewer and just have to learn to put on a happy smile and deal with it until you can change your surroundings so I stay positive and try not to stir up too much.

Thanks for the reply. I havent lived anywhere else in the US besides San Diego except for overseas(Military brat) and the thought of leaving San Diego for Erie Pa. is kinda scary. The only thing that is good is i got offered a good position in the A&M branch MIA. I have been trying to get in contact with any BP or CBP Mia in that part to see how they feel about the gig.

Dude, if you get offered a position with MIA GRAB IT!! I had the same timid feelings about jumping into new environments when I was in the military and I made a HUGE mistake by not trying the new stuff. I did a lot of cool fun stuff to be sure but if I had taken the transfers to other jobs I'd probably still be in doing a job I LOVED. You only get one shot at life and if you don't grab the opportunities when you can you'll kick yourself over and over... BELIEVE ME. I didn't grab a couple and I've regretted it ever since. Plus, once you're there, if you love marine enforcement but don't like PA you can always transfer... that's the great thing about being Federal is you can go just about anywhere (assuming your spouse will agree to it :D ).

so with MIA's not going to CITP, what is the job duties for MIA's out in the field now. Do MIA's do investigations still, processing seizures, etc? or is it strictly maritime patrol. Also is the grooming standards for A&M the same as CBP OFO since A&M is CBP now?

From what I understand A&M has it great. All thery do is catch it. They then turn everything over to either ICE or USBP. No investigations. But they are journeyman GS-12's with a takehome ride.

Not sure what the grooming standards are for CBPO's but I believe that A&M has the same standards as USBP. Normal LEO standards with no beards.

I hope the job is still as great as every says it is. You know with the merge into CBP who knows how it is now or will be in the near future. I spoke to somebody about the grooming standards and it is the same as OBP and OFO in CBP. Anybody heard the rumor of MIA's getting Journeyman 13?

The Sup in Erie is phenomenal, and the group of agents is looking really good. The work during the summer is going to be really good, winter is another matter but you will learn to deal with it.

The GS-13 thing... It is in the works. The reason being is that MIA's are required to maintain a license. The AIA's are already 13's and the AEO's are going to 13. Loss of your license can equal loss of your job.

Last that I heard is that when BPA-M's get up and running (ie designated positions for the specified period) they will be getting their 12's.

One thing to remember is that MIA's are given alot of rope to hang themselves with, and you have no union to assist you. You are responsible for the boat and anything that happens to the boat. You own the mission, you own the risk, you own the responsibility.

A&M hasn't screwed over BP or OFO. Our people just fight for us more.

Guess I should have made it clearer. I never though A&M screwed over OFO or USBP. By "they" I ment Congress and DHS & CBP who should be making all of us USBP, OFO, & A&M at least Journeyman GS-12's.

GS-13 because you have to maintain a 6-pack license?:confused:

bp348 in the San Diego BP sectors and OFO ports the rumor is that OBP got the bill for Journeyman 12's signed and will take in effect this year or in 2010. The OFO field will be right behind BP. I dont know how accurate that is but even the CBP instructors at Glynco, Ga. FLETC are saying that it is more truth than not.

Hey tav theres another forum for CBP MIA's on military.com. Theres a poster there that says that if they send MIA's to spanish school and fail it they will be kicked out of the service. Interesting! Also if MLETP classes are full for the whole year. What are we going to be doing if we dont have MLETP under our belt? Any new check ins at the station havent gone to MLETP?

I'm pretty sure it's valid. Also, everybody wants to go to MLETP in the Spring and Summer.
