    Summer Job Federal Internship Question

    Hey All,
I am a 23 year old college student, that wants to get into some type of Federal Law Enforcement, after graduation. I was wondering if anyone knew of any Summer jobs that any agency has for someone like me. An internship, or something like that. Preferably with pay, as i have bills..

I am looking for any information that will help me.

    Thanks

If you check with your Professors or the Criminal Justice Department at your school, many times local federal agencies will post internship positions on the school's bulletin board. Your Professors may know of some too from their contacts.

A quick internet search, conducted by yours truly, came up with the following:

    http://www.fletc.gov/student-informa...intern-program

    http://usmarshals.gov/careers/fcip_faq.htm

    http://www.fbijobs.gov/2347.asp

    http://www.fbi.gov/employment/academy.htm

This is but a snippet, the rest of the work you have to do yourself.

If you want to do a federal internship, you need to realize that most do not pay. I did two internships (one fed and one local), and the only one that paid was with a local sheriff's office.

FBI offers a paid internship, but it's extremely competitive. It's also hosted at their HQ in D.C. Secret Service offers a Stay in School Clerk position, which is like a paid internship. Also, several agencies offer a co-op position. I'll leave it to you and google.com to find out more about who offers co-ops and what they entail (though I do know USMS and ICE offer them).

Also, whether you realized it or not, if you want to do something for THIS summer, you're probably too late. You need to apply probably a semester in advance, as it can take months to complete the necessary background investigation for the internship. Next summer may be on the table for you, but I'd advise you to start looking into it by the fall semester.

I did an internship at the Department of Homeland Security HQ in DC which actually paid quite well. I saw the announcement for it on usajobs.gov but it might have expired by now. Look on there for others too. Do like BIG said and spend time researching online. There are a lot of possible internships out there but some are hard to find and some are VERY competitive. I know NCIS and the DEA have unpaid internships.

Also check out seasonal police officer positions. Many college students do those in place of internships. I know Ocean City MD hire a lot of college students for their seasonal police officer positions. Well good luck on your search.

Would you contact local police about that? I googled for programs like that but all I found was park service and I live no where near one.

Yep. Google can help, but sometimes you need to talk to a real person at an agency to see what's available.
