    help/advice needed federal job! come on in all!!

    hey all

    i am 23, and i graduate college in December(Criminal Justice)
    i was in the National Guard for 6 years, and did a 15 month deployment to Afghanistan, and 6 months in New Orleans after the hurricanes.
    I have a few questions, all advice is welcomed. I am really wanting to go Federal Air Marshal or US Marshal.

    1. Should i go ahead and start applying now even though i graduate in December?

    2. Are my qualifications even what they look for.

    3. How and where do i apply?
    I went to avue central, but man that thing is confusing!!

    4. I am thinking about re-enlisting in another branch of the service(Air Force Reserves), but I don't want that to be a negative factor. Any advice????????

    Yes. Processing typically takes months, and for some more than a year. I was in the pipeline for several years with the USMS. My delay was mostly as a result of several assignments in Iraq and Afghanistan, which interfered with processing.

    Yes. Agencies look for a variety of skills based on their unique needs. The U.S. Marshals Service, as with many other agencies, typically look for candidates with higher education, law enforcement and / or military experience.

    From my personal experience, the U.S. Marshals Service is supportive of those amongst their ranks who serve in the military.

    I suggest you expand your interest beyond two specific agencies. Processing for most agencies is very competitive.

    I would apply now.

    You can find alot if not all fed leo positions on usajobs.gov Try the series search under 1811. USBP is under 1896. I'm not sure what the IEA's or CBPO's are.

    At 23 you have plenty of time to get a position.
