Yes. Processing typically takes months, and for some more than a year. I was in the pipeline for several years with the USMS. My delay was mostly as a result of several assignments in Iraq and Afghanistan, which interfered with processing.

Yes. Agencies look for a variety of skills based on their unique needs. The U.S. Marshals Service, as with many other agencies, typically look for candidates with higher education, law enforcement and / or military experience.

From my personal experience, the U.S. Marshals Service is supportive of those amongst their ranks who serve in the military.
I suggest you expand your interest beyond two specific agencies. Processing for most agencies is very competitive.
