Proposed Merger of Library of Congress Police

A proposed bill, P.L. 110-178, titled the U.S. Capitol Police and Library of Congress Police Merger Implementation Act of 2007, has been approved by the House, but has not yet been voted on by the Senate.

If passed as H.R. 3690, the bill would provide for the transfer of the Library of Congress police into the United States Capitol Police.

From the outside, it looks like this merger would make sense. Curious to see what LOC personnel have to say about being absorbed into the USCP.

I'm interested to see if USCP will make LOC Police go through their hiring process. I'm sure all the existing LOC employees will be extended some type of employment offer, but I'd just like to see if there will be any more to it.

From my understanding, the USCP's pay schedule is slightly higher than LOC's pay schedule. If that is in fact the case, I'm reasonably certain the extra money will help to "ease the transition", or at least make it a little more palatable.

I think they could combine about two dozen uniformed feds in the DC area and they still wouldn't make a dent.

Perhaps NZP Police will follow suit and merge with USPP.

Or on the other hand, I like the dozens of police agencies in the metro area. It leaves plenty of room to move around in case I don't get hired by one, or if I even need a back up plan! :D

Not likely because half of them are retired USPP Officers already.
