CBP NOT getting LEO Status??

Hey, I'm always willing to help out.... the fact they are from Northern MI just adds to the fact that as a U'Per I'm then OBLIGATED to help out my fellow countrymen (that'd be the independent country of Upper Michigan) :D

I must say however they'd be better off getting trained by a Tiger rather than a house cat like me :p

I've seen stuff on the USBP union web page and the Office of the Border Patrol home page about making USBP agents sometype of GS-12, somthing like journeyman GS-11 and compete for lead patrol agent GS-12 with firstline supervisors as GS-13. Or maybe just making the journeyman level GS-12 accross the board.

You guys heard anything like that for CBPO's?

Well, that's kind of what we did with the journeyman 11 positions we have now. We had journeyman 9 then you tested to become a "senior inspector" which was essentially a non-supervisory 12 job but 11 pay. Our seniors when I started could approve seizures and arrests etc. Then they made us all 11's and screwed the people that had to actually test for the position. Now we are all 11's, our 12's (first line sup's) can't make any friggin decisions without going to a Chief (13's) who most of the time calls an Assistant Port Director (14) for hand holding and re-assurances. It's friggin amazing we get anything accomplished between the fact that partly the agency doesn't trust ANYONE to actually DO their job and the other half of the equation being that even if they were allowed to half of our managers are unable to actually MAKE a decision without constant handholding from their bosses.

I did hear a little while back that they wanted to make a "Lead Officer" type position so that certain officers would be made a non-supervisory 12. They were talking like the few officers who basically do the scheduling and help the supervisors run the shift (we currently call them Lead Azz Kissers) then some other positions like our NAFTA TN people, the full time Firearms Instructors etc. Basically continuity jobs where we have a bunch of responsibility and authority to deal with. I doubt we'll ever see it but it's one of those fairy tails passed around.

Oh, and to answer your actual question.. no, I haven't heard anything about BP in a while. :D


I have been working with our Air Interdiction and Marine Interdiction Agents however (most of whom were BP) and they are a great bunch of guys. Of course they wanted stuff from us so maybe thats why? :p
