Question regarding the USSS

I will be a senior next year, so do you think that it would be wise to do an internship next summer after I graduate? The Secret Service really interests me because I am very interested in white collar crimes and counterfeit investigations, etc. and because it seems like a good opportunity to travel the world (I am sure that would change when I have a family). I have a high attention to detail.

If I had to do it over again, I would have applied for the Stay in School Clerk position with USSS, not an internship (the SISC position is basically a paid internship with a security clearance). Call the nearest FO and ask if they have SISC positions available, and take an internship as a second choice.

I was UD for a couple of years and a lot of my classmates went 1811 with the service. In the past they did not like to take UD into the 1811 ranks but in the last 3 years or so they have picked up a lot more officers, it may have to do with UD now applying through the field office rather then internally.

I think UD is a great stepping stone into a federal career, first off you are covered, you can get some great experience if you don't mind taking a little slack from the bosses(I made about about 60 arrests in a year), and there special teams get excellent training. so, all in all UD wasn't that bad if you can get past the first 6 months of standing post. As a side note if you have never been to Florida or Ohio you see more of those states then you will ever want to.
