Are any TSA positions "Armed". I know originally none were, they had little or no enforcement capability. They usually call local or federal officers when arrests are warranted, has that changed?

FAM's and maybe K-9 and VIPR teams. Not sure about anyone else. I know the "officers" at the airport checkpoints are definitley not.

    Wink Inspectors

Nope, Not Armed Sorry....Just Civil Penalties for Violations of aircraft and cargo shipping policy...
Not really a LEO position of any kind...More like a agriculture or consumer products investigator...Comparable to a 1810 in a lotta ways...Pays decent though..But if you are looking for Leo
    action. Forget It....LOL:D

I currently work for the TSA as a TSO. From what I hear, the Inspector position is a very good position. However, if one does not like to travel much, they should not apply. Supposedly, they travel to many other cities and airports and set up mobile details and such during high traffic times. It is highly sought after.

So is it hard to get into/ What kind of education do you have to have?

Where this position is, its out in BFE so I'm sure it won't be too highly sought after. Its not advertised or anything other then there so yeah

If you have a background in Investigations and or Inspections it would certainly help. Broad Knowledge of TSA SD's (Security Directives), TSA SOP's and FAA/TSA regulations on shipping cargo...for example Hazmat substances, packing and labeling requirements for general cargo shipping. Mesh that with your KSA's and you should be good to go.....I don't mean to discourage you by any means but it has been my experience with TSA that they promote from within...But what the Hell it's only paper or a few mouse clicks nowadays...Trust me I have killed many a tree aka (sent many a resume, ksa, SF-50 and performance appraisel.) in my pursuit of happiness and am still doing so today...I will either get that job someday or win the powerball..LMMFAO

    Good Luck....

I don't know how I missed this thread. I deal with the TSA Inspector every month. Nice guy.

Hockey, if you got this job, what you would be doing is spending a lot of time in places like my business, checking paperwork, making sure doors are locked, making sure all TSA regs are followed and documented.

You also stand a pretty good chance of getting your *** whupped. One of the duties is pulling on van and truck doors to make sure they are locked. I was sitting at Cont. Cargo not too long ago, when all of a suddem someone opened the back door to my van. I jumped out ready to fight, and it turned out to be the TSA Inspector assigned to the airport.

If you have any specific questions, I will ask our Inspector when he comes around next month.

Sheriff, we are coming for you.

No, I am not an expert, but I am a fat guy who likes to eat.
