    Easiest 1811

I do no want to insult anyone or cause a massive riot, but can I get people's opinion on the easiest and hardest 1811 jobs to get??? I know it probably depends, but looking at sheer numbers and whatnot, what agency do I have the best shot at right out of college. Thanks.

So, do I understand this correctly? You are not too concerned about the type of LE that a specific agency does, you are just interested in the 1811 SA title? Or an easy way into the SA ranks to move to the agency that you would rather be at in the first place?

Build up your resume through knowledge and experience and become the "best applicant", rather than try to look for the easy way in. SA positions are highly competetive to start with....

Just my $.02 (but I have an aversion to mediocrity)

Some may find it to be a bit easier to get into the U.S. Marshals Service. The main reason for this is the fact that, under current hiring practices, you do not start as an 1811. You begin as an 082 and then make 1811 after something like 3 years.

The only thing that makes it mroe competitive is the reputation of the Service, the opportunities to work closely with other LE, the diversity of the job, and the potential for a VERY satisfying job.

Some may argue that the FBI is the most difficult agency with which to get hired. However, this is understandable when you consider that most other Federal Agencies hire entry-level 1811's at the GS-5, 7, or 9 pay levels, while the FBI hires at the GS-10 level.

    Easiest 1811

Ditto SSA 1811 about FBI, plus it's the best known so it gets more applicants. I always thought Secret Service was most selective- smaller, tougher physical, more demanding-transfers, travel etc.

Not aiming for mediocrity, just a starting point

I'm not aiming for mediocrity, I just want to get as much information about my options as possible. Knowledge is power.

ICE is doing a lot of hiring right now, so that does help the odds.

I always thought that IG's and Nat. Resource LE positions were the toughest 1811 gigs to get. Simply because there are usally just a few postings/positions available pretty infrequently. Its not uncommon for an IG position to have several hundred highly qualified applicants gunning for 1 spot.

Right now ICE is hiring like crazy. FBI always has an open announcement, but they are very selective and have a long process. USSS always seems to have an open announcement as well. I wouldnt say that any 1811 is "easy" to get. But agencies (like those mentioned above) are a good place to start simply because of the open announcements, and the many positions available, meaning you can start putting out apps right away.

@Hockey9019: "Entry-level" is the pay grade that an Agency will hire you at coming off the street (so to speak). Most Agencies bring on new hires at the GS-5, or GS-7 pay grade, a few will bring new hires on as GS-9's, while the FBI hires their candidates at the GS-10 level.

1811 is a "Job Series" classification for "Criminal Investigator (Special Agent)". All Federal jobs have their own classification, for example an 082 is a Deputy US Marshal (they also have 1811 Deputy US Marshals), while an 083 is a uniformed Police Officer.

Most 1811 positions, but not all of them, require a college degree.

You asked for representative examples of the easiest and hardest , I'm just showing an example of the "not so easiest" entry level.;)

there are so many variables to your question, but as a veteran 1811 applicant of almost every agency, in my opinion the "easiest" process has been ice. the most difficult part was obtaining the pin # to apply! the test and interview was a joke. and, once you pass them, your basically hired. the drawback is the length of time and geographical location of the offer. by the way, if you havent received a pin for ice by now, you may have missed the boat. like the d.e.a., they may not be hiring for a while because of the mass hiring they have been conducting for the past couple of years. there are a huge backlog of applicants.
