Great Italian place just south...one exit....in the Best Western Hotel. An old Italian couple from Brooklyn retired there three years ago and opened up shop after closing their NY restaurant. All homemade and very good at cheap prices! And, they have cameras in the kitchen that you can watch on monitors around the restaurant. You can watch every thing they do from picking teh fod, prepping it, cooking and plating. Very nice place!
Make frineds with them and if your from NY, tell them! They quiz you a little and then give you a NY discount which was huge when we were there (50%).

+1 on Spanky's, now if only I could get them to teach the FLETC "chefs" how to grill chicken.;)
I'll definitely have to check out some of the other places mentioned. There's also a Smokey's barbecue one exit south that was pretty good and I heard that there is another place called Georgia Pig a little farther south that was good as well.

I can't think of the name of it, but there is a sandwich shop/ bar out on St. Simon's, out by the pier and old lighthouse. Good food and the staff had always been friendly (and easy on the eyes...;))

what shoes should I bring to CITP. In the materials I received they said to bring a pair of running shoes and also a pair of shoes 'suitable for defensive tactics'. Is this just a second set of running shoes?
Do I need to bring boots as well?

Reminiscing here ....... I realize everyone is health food conscious these days, so I'm not surprised that no one has mentioned Willies Wee-Nee Wagon on Altama. Of course, its been over ten years since I was last down there so Willies may not even be there anymore.
It looked like your typical greasy spoon (If I remember correctly, the sign outside said something like, "We relish your buns"), but it used to be a tradition for folks attending FLETC. It used to have IMHO the best pork chop sandwich ever, and you had to have tried at least once, the Willie Burger and Willie Dog.
Are there any recent attendees who may know if its still there?

We had running shoes (which we bought ourselves, not issued), and used them for ORT, which is both PT and DT. They told us we needed 2 pairs of shoes, too, but in actuality we only used one. I'd buy one pair, and if your PTD instructor tells you you need another, go buy them.

Our agency didn't have us wear boots, but I know ICE did, and they issued them to their students. I assume if your agency wants you in boots, they'll also issue them to you.

On check in day at FLETC should you dress business casual or is casual acceptable? I know on the first training day you wear a suit, but I was just curious as to what is acceptable when checking in?
Thanks

As long as your wearing a shirt, something on your feet and some type of pants/shorts, your fine!
I have seen people checking in weraing sandals, shorts and t-shirt right up to business casual. Most are wearing jeans, shorts or 5.1''s. All yoru doing is seeing a security guard at a window, doing some paperwork and getting a orientation folder, maybe 20 minutes and your out to yout drom. Nobody expects anything that day.

At check-in at FLETC, unless you're told otherwise by your agency, you'll likely only have to go to the security office outside the main gate for student check-in, ID card, etc. Their security staff could probably care less what you wear, unless you walk up there in your b'day suit or something way-out-there.
If you're told to report somewhere for your agency on check-in day, plan accordingly. For me, I went to the security office for check-in and then went to my dorm, so it didn't matter if I was wearing casual (which I was) or something more formal.

Stupid question but are contacts allowed at FLETC? The agencies I'm applying to actually do not have uncorrected vision requirements. I was just wondering what their protocol was. Thanks!

The hiring agency will specify what vision requirements they have (if any), not FLETC.
