6c coverage is for selected Federal law enforcement officers in Series, 083, 1811, 1801 who perform law enforcement duites. They are eligible for retirement benefits after 20 years of service. Pay for these series are traditionally 5 to7 percent higher than non law enforcement at the same grade.
The law enforcement job series has a special pay rate and retirement is based on actual duties or secondary duties in law enforcement service with twenty years of service. Retirement is based on high three years of grade.
Non-law enforcement jobs are not eligible to retire until minimum of 25 years of service.
Hope this helps

Bottom line is as a Federal law enforcement officer you can become elgibile for retirement after 20 years of service
Actually the series doesn't make that much of a difference in coverage. Some 0083 are 6C and some are not. Also 1801 Deportation Officers and Immigration Enforcement Agents are covered while 1801 CBP Officers(former inspecters) are not covered under 6C. Detention Enforcement Officers were 1802s , but had 6c while most 1802 positions were not covered such as investigative assistants and deportation assistants. 1896 series Border Patrol Agents are covered, but 1801 Examiners and Adjudications officers are not. Also most if not all 0083 Veterans Affairs Police are not covered under 6C.
Are the Secret Service UD, US Capitol, Park, & DOD police covered under 6c?
I think they are.
