    USSS Application/Neighbor Question

I have a problem. For the USSS application, and a few others, it asks you to list neighbors at each of your addresses. I have never known my neighbors at my other addresses except in passing (i.e. don't even know their names).

At the apartment I lived in for 3 years, we had new neighbors about every 6 months because of people moving, military, etc. so I have a big issue with that.

Any one have an idea how I address this without DQing my app?

I personally would start by contacting your recruiter and ask them. I am sure you are not the first person to have this problem and they probably already have a solution for you. Best of luck.
The older you get, the better you get, unless of course you are a bananna.

Exactly. I ran into the same situation. I was able to explain the location of neighbors I spoke to causally or in passing, and from what I understand they went to contact them. One lived across the street, but I didn't know him on a name-to-name basis, the other lived just down the street. Don't sweat it. They'll work with you and will likely understand that your social life my not revolve around your neighbors. They just want to make sure your neighbors haven't seen you up to no-good.

I had the same problem with my SF-86. I was in a rent house and for 6 of the 7 months I lived there I was detailed to a city 100 miles away. I think I met my neighbors once. The house was basicly a storage unit for my stuff while I was gone.

I talked with the background investigator and he told me I had to list someone. So I listed my wife who was then my girlfriend .

Guess it was OK because I never heard anything else on the matter.

I would'nt sweat this. Like Ros stated "They just want to make sure your neighbors haven't seen you up to no-good.."like taking a body wrapped in black plastic out of your house at night or a smell of a "browish green leafy substance" coming from your windows! lol I went through the same thing and although I didn't know my neighbors very well outside of a "Hi!" when I was checking my mail, I listed them anyway and both USSS and OPM (for ICE) apparently had no problems with them as I never heard back from the BI in ref. to it and was offered the job with ICE. Good luck!

I've done a lot of neighborhood interviews on SSBI's that went something like this:

Me: Do you know, Joe Blow?
    Them: No
Me: He lived in the apartment above you five years ago.
    Them: Doesn't ring a bell.
Me: He was a cop. Did you ever see a cop coming from upstairs.
Them: Yeah, maybe, once or twice. I think I know who you are talking about. But, I never talked to him or anything.
Me: Would you recomend him for a position of trust with ....

In other words, we understand everybody not knowing their neighbors. After my first hiring, and after I had gone off to the academy, one of the nosy neighbor's I barely knew came over and asked my wife if everything was okay.

When she asked why, he said, well everyone knows the FBI was asking a lot of questions about your husband around the neighborhood, and he's been gone for a couple of months now, and I was he afraid he was in prison or something. :D
