Our local union has prepared letters for us to sign and fill in for our respective congressmen and senators regarding W's attempt to get rid of this. Last year, I think we lost something on average of 70 officers (nationwide) per payperiod. The only thing this does is "stop the clock" for SOME inspectors. They still have to work out the nuts and bolts of this (if it goes through). For example, if you are over 37, but under 40, you (probably) won't be able to transfer to another agency/department other than ICE/DRO or BP (both take you up to 40 rather than 37). But you won't be able to go into the CBP Enforcement Officer position if you are over 37 by July 2008. W seems to have an alomost personal dislike to us (that's the way it seems, anyway). Especially in light of the GAO report that came out last Dec. that said we qualify for 6C coverage without any modifications to the law. It will be interesting ot see how this plays out.
