Any of you current FLETC students willing to share the most up to date information regarding the CITP course and the surronding area. Any other info about FLETC would be great as well.
I just learned I am heading down there for the January class.

What kind of stuff are you looking for?
Basicly living at FLETC sucks!!!
No T.V., cable, or internet. Rooms are small but OK. It's just a bed, wall locker, desk, and a shower that you share with the guy next door.
The food is OK but the lines are really bad!!!! If you can take a car I would recommend taking you vehicle. The mall in Glynco is pretty small but Jacksonville is only 45 minutes away.
Can't tell you about the CITP as I haven't attended that class, maybe some day (I hope I hope). I have heard the the P.T. has gotten much harder for CITP then it used to be.
Congrats on the positions.
Actually if you end up in the Taj you get cable TV, a fridge, sink, microwave, and a private bath. The other dorms have the hookups for cable but you have to bring or rent your own TV. I got lucky and ended up in a corner room at the Taj when I was there for a course this past spring. It's hit or miss though, some of my classmates ended up in the older dorms. The lines at the chow hall suck though.

Any thoughts on what I should take with me since I'm driving?
I had corner room in the Taj that was handicap accessible, therefore, there was a TON of room. It was nice having a couch and other little coveniences, like a chair in the shower for those hung over Sunday mornings;) A buddy of mine was there at the same time staying in the dorms next to the G-Bar and he sure did spend a lot over at my room.:p I was there last winter and stayed in the Taj again, but had one of the "normal" rooms and no complaints. Only had to stay in the "cell block" dorms once, thankfully, it was a short class.
To answer griff's question, if you are planning to drive, take anything you may think you will need for the duration, or plan on multiple trips to Wally World. You won't know where you are staying until you get to Building 1. If you are in the dorms with the small rooms, you may want to bring a small TV. You can rent or buy a small fridge. I can't remember if the small dorms come with an iron/ ironing board.
If you luck out and get the Taj, you will have everything you need already there.
And one more suggestion, bring a bicycle or you can rent one there. I think the guys name was Bob and he rented bikes for about $15/ month. He has advertisements up around the campus

My new hero!
Im just trying to put together a packing list and get as much info as possible.
So you don't have any specific questions?
Well, here's some general info:
*If you get sick, go to the Health Unit, but then get your butt off campus and go see a real doctor, and get real medication that can get you better.
*Take time to rest, and take advantage of the cold sauna machine the Training Unit has in the PTD building if you're sore or have bad joints.
*Lock up valuables in your room safe. Don't expect them to be secure otherwise.
*Stay away from the Red Carpet Lounge... hint, hint.
*Don't spend all your free time in the G-bar.
*Get off campus every now and then, and go on any social trips you can with classmates. If you don't have a car, make friends fast with someone who does.
*Stick with the Grill line in the caf if you want cooked food.
*Get off campus and eat some real food every now and then.
*Don't wear FLETC or cop clothing/gear off campus (this should be common sense, but you'll be surprised).
Nice extras to have: micro fridge, microwave, TV (rooms have cable now), Xbox 360, computer/laptop, jacket/coat (unless you're here during summer), etc.

Thanks for the info! I'm driving down on the 6th and checking in on the 7th of January.
Don't forget the bug spray. I've found Cactus Juice (you can buy it at the FLETC Express store on base) works best.

When I was there last spring they weren't bad at all because of the drought. I spent the spring and summer there in '94 and it was bad. And if you used aftershave/cologne or weren't smart enough to use unscented soap/shampoo, they really went after you - bug juice or no bug juice.
