    OSI GIG-Thanks

Like many I've been a ghost reader for a while. This website provided me with some critical information to land my current SA job with OSI. Been on the job for a year now as a military SA, kind of seeing what else is out there as I've been in the military for a while now (6yrs). Thanks for having me and I look forward to learning more and providing info!

Nice to have you here !

Shortly after I arrived at my first base ( Malmstrom AFB - Jan 1979) , I came back to my barracks to get ready for duty and saw a lot of commotion at my room. Several guys in suits as well as the dorm Chief were there.

Apparently , my room dog had been selling drugs at work ( in the Nuclear Weapons Storage Area ) and they were doing a raid. They wouldn't let me in but said they were only searching his stuff.

That day , I ended up not having a roommate any more. That was my first and only dealing with the OSI.

First and foremost Merry Christmas to all of you! If you had to work today please stay safe and God Bless!

OSI is currently taking applications. If you go to the website, on the right hand side you'll see a black box with "OSI". This is the recruitement section. Not only are they looking for military personnel (crosstrainees and straight entries) they are looking for civilians. I had a good number of civilians in my FLETC class. Look at the website. If any of you have any questions about OSI please let me know. Been in for a little while so hopefully I can be helpful.

New to the board and wanted to add my two cents. I've been with OSI for almost a year now, and I think it is a great organization. We are always looking for people with foreign language skills, technical knowledge, and intelligence backgrounds. I have done some recruiting recently and if anyone have any questions feel free to ask.

i have more of a complaint then a question. i applied for a reserve position last january and went through the whole process just to be rejected in late august. normally, its no big deal because that is how the federal law enforcement processes go, but i believe osi was kind of crappy. im going to attempt to make this brief. in a nutshell, i was working on getting in under the prior military process e-4/5/6. although it wasnt with the air force, my qualifications were reviewed and deemed qualified to proceed. i completed all the steps, including the background & 4 interviews. however, after receiving an email from the detcomm stating i was recommended for hire and my package was being sent to the review board. i received a phone call from the same decomm about a week later stating that they were not going to hire me because of my lack of experience with the air force computer system and an arrest i had 13 years ago for disorderly conduct that was DISMISSED!!!! needless to say, i was very upset, NOT because i was rejected, but because, they knew i wasnt prior air force and that i had a dismissed arrest when i filled out the initial qualification paperwork!!! AND i stated this during every step of the process.

It's not that the process is crappy, it's competitive! They might have found somebody with the computer experience you didn't have and no charges to be dismissed! That's just FLE in general, not just OSI. I mean I would've been pissed to but I bet they had another candidate they were seriously comparing you with. Also, you can apply somewhere else. OSI is a small and very, very competitive agency to get into. If you got that far with OSI you have a good chance to get in with another agency. Also, why would you want to come in as an E4,5,6? Add $10-$20K on that and you have a GS7-9 position in another agency. Keep searching, it's not the end of the world.

well, your not incorrect about being competitive, however, i was the only one processing through this program at the time. matter of fact, when i the process started, i was being rushed through because they were needing some reserves slots to be filled immediately.

as far as e4,e5, etc., this was for a reserve position and i am a current FLEO, so the $$ wasnt a big factor. i just wanted to get back into the military as an investigator.

Gotcha about the E4,5 stuff. Yer it's so competitive but at the same time I've seen some good people who couldn't get in but they were able to get into other FLEO positions.

Random question if you don't mind me asking it. Do OSI "civilian" agents get awarded military medals, like the Air Force Commendation, Bronze Star, etc. through the course of duties sometimes? I was curious because I was reading through the lost agents on the OSI website and a few of them had one. Wasn't sure if it was due to prior enlisted/officer military service, or they got it through their 1811-only work.

    Thanks, just wondering.

You know that's a good question. From what I know about civilians in federal service, they do not received military medals. They have civilian medals that are equivalents of military medals. I've seen a few of these awarded.
