What are the difference between an FBI Special Agent and a FBI Police Officer?
Do they receive same pay or very different?

If I told you, I'd have to kill you
:p JK
I don't have the answer I've just always wanted to say that ;)
Someone will be able to answer your question
Actually, I'll take my best shot, but the "FBI Police" is the uniformed division. And a "Special Agent" is plain clothes and maybe usually focuses on a specialty? Investigates![]()
FBI Police are 0083 Police officers. They provide protective services to FBI buildings. Somewhat like FPS, DOD or VA Police.
They are paid less then 1811 special agents. I wonder how they are treated by the agents?
Failing to train is training to fail
I wonder if you can switch over from Fbi police to Special Agent and still count the years you served as Fbi police
I could be wrong, but I don't believe the FBI Police have 6c benifits. So I don't think time would count twoards early retirement, but it must count for something.
There must be an FBI Police officer on this board that can tell you for sure.
I did read that you have to sign an agreement to stay in your police position for 2 years. Check this link out.

He's lurking around here...we do have a FBI Police Officer. They do a lot a physical security and protection of the building and property. I know they are in New York and in Washington, DC. In my contact with them, they have all been polite. seem very knowledgeable and helpful.
The Agent though is a criminal investigator, whose primary duty is to handle a caseload and investigate. Those cases often last months and are more complex than a incident.
There is a pay difference as agents get LEAP. I applied to the Police position in 2000 and during my interview they made it clear that I had to sign a 2 year commitment, and if I ever wanted to be an agent, I would have to apply and process like everyone else, no special treatment.

That would not be an easy venture (switching from FBI PO to FBI SA). Reason why is FBI SA positions have "critical skills" which they hire from. You can find out specifics on these from fbijobs.com. While "law enforcement experience" is included, it specifically states:
Uniformed patrol or protective security experience would not qualify as criminal investigative experience.Originally Posted by FBIJobs.com

Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

Hahahaaaa... very nice.
...I have to give them credit, though. It takes years of practice to learn how to take credit for other's work as well as they do.![]()

I hear training and weapons are the same only difference would be having knowledge in a certain field as a Special Agent. I asked about the salary for FBI Police because I wanted to know if it would be enough to live in a house, support your family and still have some money left for yourself.
I also wanted to know if you would be able to make a switch back to New York when you graduate from the academy since my family lives there.

Hello allKinda been out of commission for a bit with a sinus infection but after some outstanding drugs life is good !!! To answer a few questions on the FBI Police: We are not 6c covered but we have a pending lawsuit against the bureau to put us over to the same pay and pension as USSS UD. Check out passmanandkaplan.com for more info on that. Our training with the exception of firearms is completely different from the SA job. We go to FLETC for the UPTP program and then to Quantico for another 3-weeks. The job is mostly physical security with a few oppurtunities for real polcie work if you look hard enough. The easiest way to describe it is if we were a local police department the FBI Polcie would be the patrol division and the SAs would be the detective division. The only assistance you get with moving from uniform to an agent spot is that you have made the hooks hopefully to expedite your paperwork. Hope this helps

The older you get, the better you get, unless of course you are a bananna.
How much do you guys get paid?
How much would the pension be after you retire?
The pay rate is at the standard GS (law enforcement) rate which I believe a GS-6 starts aroudn $41,000. Your pension depends on how much you contribute to your Thrift Savings Plan so I really cant give you a number on that. Quite honestly if I had to do it all over again I would not have gone to FBI UD, I would have looked at USSS UD, US Capital Police, or US Park Police. Our section chief no longer allows collateral duties to specialty teams and there are few oppurtunities for you to excel in areas that interest you. We are treated quite well by the people we work with (agents & support staff) however there is little support from management. Also, if you are looking to transfer from HQ to NY things are slim, staffing at HQ is poor right now and few are allowed to transfer out. If your ultimate goal is to be an agent somewhere work on developing those critical skills and continue your education.
