Yeah. I got a great gig. All is well here. I'm not looking for the "dream job"...doesn't exist in the G. I love to travel overseas. Wife wants me to get NCIS worse than me! I just want to use my brain. I make great $ but it isn't about that. I am ready to move. I have Paramedic school doesn't end until december so...I'm kinda hoping to finish that first...if not...oh well, I guess I gotta drop out.[/QUOTE]
...I know how you feel. I'm in Law School right now, and I have 2 years to finish. Right now my package is at HQ, and I'm awaiting the pool letter. Add on a year to get a school slot, and hopefully that will allow me to finish my law degree. Who knows though...

Please don't hold it against me. The agency has come a long way! It has given a lot of really neat opportunities. O know that NCIS has scooped a few FAMs up in the past few years. Who knows...perhpas I will be the next lucky guy the the nod.

ROS, in your opinion, you think EMT/Paramedic would carry any weight in NCIS? Is there any room for that cert in/on the job?

Not sure what you meant by that. FAMs are a good group, haven't met one yet I didn't like. Solid group of LEOs with solid training. Trust me, nothing at all that I hold against the FAM in the field or the FAMS as an agency.

Couldn't tell you, bro. Certainly wouldn't hurt you, but whether there is any need for those skills, who knows? We're actively recruiting those with specific language, forensics, computer/cyber, and intel experience, obviously, but that doesn't mean plenty of other skills aren't also brought aboard (FYI: I didn't have any of these specialized skills when I was hired).

Thanks for the insight ROS...its nice to know that those of with sub par secondary language skills and no real specialized intel experience still have a chance in the pool.

To all that's interested, I talked with someone at NCIS HQ today, and there is going to be a hiring board on 26 Apr. I hope to dive into the pool on that day!

Check out 911jobforums. It is an excellent site with several going through the federal hiring process and several current NCIS Agents.

The word on the street is a hiring board this April '08. There is also word of an academy scheduled for June '08 with calls going out next month. There is also word of an entire 1811 class in August '08. This is for current 1811's in the hiring process with NCIS.

The word also is that NCIS will be going to a class size of 48 in FY '09.

Goodluck to you through out the process!!

Just checked my application status online, it says application not eligible. Not sure what that means but it might have something to do with the fact I applied before I had 6 months left in the Military. I have less than 6 now so Im thinking about applying again when the May vacany opens. I've heard there are some who applied well before they got out of the Military and didnt have any problems. Any thoughts?

Hmm, sorry for your status. For my situation, it was kinda by the book. I was due to get out in Oct 2006, and I applied in Apr of 2006. SO, it was right at the 6 month cut-off. They didn't have the online system when I applied, I just sent my paperwork into HQ.

It can be a long process, so I'm not sure why they are so hung up on that 6 month deadline. Especially for military people, we are / were more prone to move around a lot and live overseas. It would make sense that our B/I would take a little longer than the average persons.

Like I said, I started process in Apr 2006, and my package just got completed in February and hopefully I'll be in the pool at the end of this month.

I'd try again if I was you, good luck!

I applied in March and received a call on April 11 with a test date, time, and location for April. I am in the process of moving to the state the test is administered and asked him if I could take the test in May. I told him I was willing to jump through hoops to make the test in April...but he informed me that they test monthly and he would call me back with the May test date information. Am I hurting my chances?

I'd hate to speculate on your specific situation, but for ME, I originally had a test date in Apr of 2006, and due to AF NCOA I was in, I couldn't make the test. They let me test the next month, which I'm surprised they did. Look at me now....2 years later and just about to jump in the pool.
    Good Luck

Thanks for the good gouge Kbozz...its good to hear the class sizes will be increasing and maybe that will cut down of some of the pool wait. I will check out 911jobforums...it sounds like an outstanding resource.

    Question for all

Has anyone ever heard of someone making it to the pool and not getting a job? Is there a maximum time in the pool?

I cannot remember where I read 2 years as the pool limit. I thought it was official, but now I can't find the source. Possible I'm mixing it up with another agency-sorry.
