    Usss Ud

Just wondering if anyone out there had ever applied to the USSS SA been denied and then had luck trying to get into UD. I am looking into seeing if I can reapply, i was "nonselected" a couple of months after the Poly, so I dont think the poly was the problem. I know that there are some people out there who are not big fans of the UD, but I am looking to get into the system just about any way I can. Thanks for any insight.

Any LE experience will help you, not specifically UD. At one point before entering into LE I was investigating getting into USSS as a SA. Everyone I talked to warned against using UD as a stepping stone. They said you have to basically apply for permission to apply (I don't know if it's still done that way or not.) Everyone told me just to get LE experience anywhere. Your time as a deputy sheriff or a cop on the street anywhere busy will give you far better experience in LE than being in UD. I worked with a guy who came to my agency from UD and it was basically a glorified gate guard job. He even got into "patrol" there and it was deeply frowned upon to actually do any police work while driving around DC.

Just go be a cop somewhere busy for a couple years and then apply back to USSS.

    Hoss,

SSA1811 could chime in better than anyone on this. I do however have several friends in my agency who were former UD, and know a bit about them. Although UD officers can and do become SA's there is no special consideration. You are pretty much treated the same as an outside applicant. Lots of security work and traveling with the protection details. It will get your foot into the federal door however, and "stop the clock". No you will not be arresting perps left and right (just like most other federal agencies, local is best to get "down and dirty" right away) but you will get great training and gainful employment as a federal LEO. As with anything you have to way the pros and cons vs. your personal goals, and in the end do what is best for you. Good Luck!

Not trying to be negative or disrespectful but it stands to reason if you were DQ'd from the UD you will not make it through the SA process or vice-versa. Can you find out why the DQ?

If you can reapply in a year do so. Sometimes it takes people three to four processes to get on with the agency they want.

no, no disrespect, that is a good point. I am in the process right now of trying to find out why i was DQ'd. From past research it can be tough to find out why. Obviously if they didnt like my poly I would assume that I had no shot at UD, but I am wondering if it was something else such like interview or experience etc.

I called my field office and they told me to call the personnel office, they asked me to fax a request, still waiting.

So, that is what I was wondering. I am hoping to get into the test for the ATF in Detroit, and I am looking at some other agencies. Just didnt know if anyone would recommend trying to get into UD and then making the jump to SA or just keep applying (which I planned on doing anyway) and looking at other agencies.

    Hoss,

From what I have seen, it is not uncommon for the USSS to drop applicants at the final step in the process. Most of the time there is no explanation, as it is just part of the hiring/selection process. If that is the case, you should be able to reapply no problem 1 year after the fact (I believe). There are many out there who were rejected only to reapply again and be hired. If it was a poly issue however, the policy may be different. But I doubt you will have a problem giving it another shot. Hell, it cant hurt. Worse they can do is say no right?

Maverick, good point, I figure that it cant hurt. I will keep bothering them until they hire me or tell me never to walk into the office again.

Does anyone know if the one year applies to the time you were DQ'd or from the point when you first applied?

re-apply idea varies from office to office. call and ask. just do your research and make sure you know what you are getting into.

I just received my "Thanks, but no thanks." letter from them. They want "investigator" experience not uniformed police though I figured as much. Good luck in that process! Keep applying for the UD I'd also look into: USCP, USPP & SCOTUS (who currently has an announcement open).
