Anyone notice the FPS announcements on USAJOBS? I was curious why the went to 0080 rather than the standard 0083. The 0080 has a higher top end ($$). Also, anyone know if they'll open up the announcement to other than ICE and US Immigration employees, maybe other gov employees?

I saw the opening too, but it did not look to me that it was open to ICE and US Immigration employees only (maybe I'm wrong) and the starting pay is really low, around 30k.

There are a lot oF factors when considering starting pay. Was it a L.E.A.P. position? And it was a career ladder with step increases. I saw that it was status candidates only. Honestly, how many positions can they expect to fill from within?

It was open to Status. This means that any Goverment employee could apply.

I was under the impression it was for ICE and US Immigration only too. The one posted i saw said:

Who May Apply: Current U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees in the competitive service who are serving on a career or career-conditional appointment.

at least for now, maybe it opens to the public at a later date.

FPS has always had 0080 and 0083's as well as 1811's. FPS has the three law enforcement positions. The announcement is open only to current ICE employees. The pay is really not low being that if you come in as a 7 you are non competitively promoted up to a 12. Job is outstanding by Federal standards. LESO's or inspectors also have take home vehicles the same as the police officers and special agents.

The information that I have received is that yes, these will eventually open up to the public and status candidates. I would keep checking over the next 12 months.

Not to rain on anyones parade. I just got my notification I made the cert list. So now the wait begins. No one seems to know if this is a waiting list for future spots or actual hires.

Nope, DOD. Applied under status position. Anyone who is listed as a career personnel, can apply for a position listed as status canidate. If they want to keep it in house it will be listed as agency only. Non gov employees apply under the listing as Public.

Just goes to show how the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. I imagine the announcement is written up by H.R. who doesn't take any input from the service they are hiring for. To much conflicting information on the announcement itself. :mad:

I recall reading that FPS was cutting a large amount of positions. Now they seem to posting "many vacancies" in several areas for 0080 positions.

It seems like a good gig, anyone know the real skinny?
