    CBP questions.

I did a search on this, but I was unable to find any answers. Does anyone out there (who works for Border Patrol) know what their policy is on carrying privately owned weapons. I have heard that handguns had to be approved, but what about private AR15/M4 type rifles? Also, are BP agents authorized take home units? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Are you asking about Customs and Border Protection Officers (CBPO) or are you asking about Border Patrol Agents (BPA)? they are not the same thing.

If you are asking about CBP, I can ask one of the students here. However, I doubt a CBPO is authorized a personally owned long arm. ICE is not, at least for normal agents. I have no information about reaction teams, which would fall under OPSEC anyway.

Typically, at least for ICE, you are allowed to choose a weapon from a list of approved makers and models. You must then qualify with it. This, of course, is provided your FOD allows it in the first place.

Sorry for the confusion, I was referring to Border Patrol Agents.

    POWS: No.

Take-homes: Why would you want one?

    K9 agents have take homes.

Personally owned weapons? Unless they were bought through the agency, forget about it.

OBP and the firearms tactical division have to approve the personal weapon. Basically that means there is very little chance.

I thought that policy had been changed by the interim CBP firearms policy.

There are a few PA's that still carry a POW (Sig) because they were grandfathered in. The new policy says no more POWs.

As for a take home ride, we have them on the northern border but only K9's (and some intel guys) have them on the southern. It varys from station to station. In the area you have to live in on the southern border you don't want a marked ride at your residence.
