    Jobs without college?

I'm a 25yr old infantry Marine about to get out. What jobs are available without college? I've been looking around some, (I've just got back from 7 months in the sandbox, didn't have alot of time over there) and alot of them require a degree or combination of "experience and education". What kind of "combination" is required. I would like to find something where I could get on a SRT/React force as I have lots of CQB and Anti/Counter Terrorism experience and training. I'm pretty intelligent, I test really high. I just don't have any college time. I also have a S clearance with a TS that should be completed soon. Anyone have any good leads. I would prefer Fed LE. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

I have been told that it costs the Government $8,000 and at least 9 months to process and complete a Top Secret clearance.

If the Government is investing that much time and money on getting you a TS clearance, then I have to presume you are not just an "infantry" Marine. Therefore, your "experience" would be your MOS or Military Occupational Specialty.

There are quite a number of Federal LE positions which do not require a college degree, you just have to do some research. For example, the following is a link for one looking for candidates with military experience with a TS clearance a plus:

    Good luck!

I was part of the short lived "Anti-Terrorism Bn" it was supposed to be a SWAT team like unit for high level missions. The clearance comes from there. However all we did was infantry/security guard type missions. Technically I'm a 0351 Infantry Assaultman.
I've already applied to for the Nuclear Materials Courier pos. I'm waiting to hear back. I'm just trying to open up as many possabilities just in case.

As far as I can tell most of the 1811 (Special Agent) positions want school, but Federal LE positions like the US Capitol Police, Secret Service UD, and others are cool with just the Military experience.

Good luck, and thanks for your service.

I'm told that the Marshals Service is looking at doing a public hiring announcement in early/mid '08. When I know more, I'll put the information out there for you.

The Courier job is the one I want. Hopefully I'll be "highly qualified" enough. Thanks for all the replies and advice.

    vet hire...

    Hello fellow jarhead,
Several things you may want to look at when applying to FED LEO jobs. 1st be patient, next use your vet's preference.
If you spent time in the sandbox make sure you are checking the box for vet's preference for service during a time of war / or designated campaign for which a campaign award was received. Knowns as 5-Point Preference (TP) .
Next if you are service connected disabled, or think you might be make sure you are checking the ten point box. Which there are several categories of.

As far as education ... if you put in for the GI BIll use it , get your education while applying for jobs. You are competing against vet, vets with degrees and and vets with advanced degrees .

I spent 11 years in the Marine Corps , got my bachelors with honors, joined an honor society, and was hired into my current job and offered several others, only after applying to too many to list.

Your skills are important but how can you articulate them to what are known as KSA ( knowledge , skills, and abilities.) I would suggest you spend some time looking at the Boston College resume format, learn to use action verb bullets instead of a long narrative.

And realize you will be going through either the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center or some other facility where you will relearn to do things their way. And last but not least make sure they are law enforcement retirement covered positions know as 6c

Feel free to PM me and I will try to help you as best as possible.
