Depends on what exactly you're looking for. I would suggest the Dept of Veterans Affairs Police (VA Hospital Police). It's basically a glorified armed hospital security type gig. You have powers of arrest on VA property and depending on the facility you may be able to enforce state vehicle code violations.
It's a great job for a retired cop because the crime rate is basically zero. If you wanna sit around all day and do nothing while collecting a paycheck it's perfect for you. I'm sure you've done more than enough hooking and booking in your career so the VA might be perfect for you. There's no real websites I can point you too but there are quite a few VA cops on this site.
I spent 4 years at the VA in CT and absolutely hated it but that's only because I was 22 and it wasn't quite what I was looking for.
CBP... US Customs & Border Protection. No age hiring limit, low risk of death, great pay. It can be a little boring sometimes depending on where you would work but you get very good pay and there is a much lower risk of injury or death than most traditional Police jobs.
I am a Paladin, like the warriors of old, ready to stand on the line to keep others safe... A Sheep Dog, ready to protect the herd from advancing wolves!
You can also look at a Court Security Officer at the federal buildings. I met a couple of retired NYPD guys who are now doing that. It looks like your under the supervision of the US Marshal.
Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

If you plan on staying in the NY area, you have very few options. Most already mentioned!
1) CBP is always hiring at JFK, and sometimes at Laguardia.
2) U.S. Marshals always have CSO's as mentioned above. Not a bad gig, Monday through Friday with weekends and holidays off! (suit & tie)
3) TSA. You will have to do a few months as a screener, but I know 3 guys who went that route and within 3 months, were supervisors. Decent money and hours.
4) The VA Hospital by the police academy has openings...rarely. if you can get that gig, it is not bad. But it is uniform security work.
5) The Equal Employment Opportunity Comission always has opneing for investigators. No gun or badge....but basic investigations!
6) There is a Detention Enforcement Officer with the U.S. Marshals. Typically you will be doing the searching, restraining and trasnporting bewteen the detention center in Brooklyn and at the facility in front of 1 PP to the court and back.
7) The National Park Service is always hiring but that is a lot of outdoor stuff. So if your not up for such at Gateway National Park or at Ms. Liberty, it may not be for you! Again more uniform, and no gun.
8) My personal favorite is the old fashioned U.S. Post Office. My old partner went there after 25 years on the job and retiring a 2nd grade detective. He was tired of teh uniform, suits and gun toting. He is plain old window clerk and loves it. Not to mention he made over $80G last year on top of the pension!
All depends what you want to do!
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.
1) CBP Officer
2) U.S. Marshal coury deputy
3) Background Investigator for OPM - Most investigators are contract employees and that's what I have my eye's on when I retire.
4) Not a fereral job but why not teach some CJ classes at the local community college. I have my eye on that as well.
It is not court deputy. Nole has it right. It is a Court Security Officer (CSO). They are often nicknamed bluecoats because of the blue blazers that they have to wear. It's a terribly boring job, but usually pays pretty well. Your primary duties are entry control at federal courthouses. You also do patrols through the public areas and sit in courts when they are in session. Your position may or may not rotate, depending on how they run it at the local level.
Now, with all that being said, it is NOT a federal job. It is a contract position.

Working on a PhD in CQB one doorway at a time.
When the wolf attacks, he will find not all who run with the flock are sheep!
Pretty much anything in the 0083 Federal Police series...
It's either used as a stepping stone for the young or a 2nd retirement check for the already retired..:rolleyes:Good Luck
Got one opening up next year. Executive position. comes with a house and supplied vehicles. Lots of travel and you get to meet al kinds of people.:D
On the serious note, stay away from the 0083 positions. After you have been use to a solid command stucture, most of those,(excepted Park, Capital, maybe PFPA) are usually run by career executives with no Police experiance.
I'ld like gansta rap more if it wasn't about killing people like me!
That's a valid point! The VA I worked at was run by incompetent career security guards! Even the "so called" Police experience they brought to the table was 0083 type positions. It's not a bad job for a retired cop as long as you don't get wrapped up in the nonsense and wannabes running around your facility. Bottom line is if you want any easy pay check give it a look! ;)
+1 to Joeyd6
VA is easy money. Court dates are set in stone, unless you go through city/county. And there is a VA near you.
But there are a ton of fed jobs out there not necessarily LE that can provide a decent pay check.
CBPO, VA, DOD, USPS to name a few. Search USAJOBS for 0080, 0083, & 1801 and see what peaks your interest.
Good luck!

This is probably the best job for a retiree. You make your hours and as long as you work your 40 and do your assigned tasks it isn't that difficult. The wait time for them darned investigators to do you BI is a killer though. Expect it to take 6-9 months.
This is what I currently do while I'm waiting for my next agency to realize they can't live without me.:D I'm just waiting for them darned investigators to do my BI. :D
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.
Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.
Dont forget FBI Uniformed Division !!! Located in NY,DC,Quantico and West Virginia. We currently have 4 retired NYPD guys with us.
The older you get, the better you get, unless of course you are a bananna.
Do the still have a waiting list on CGIS in Clarksburg?? I also heard through the grapevine FBI Police will be in the new facility in Winchester VA....:D
