    DOD Jobs

I've seen guys post about ICE and FBI and so fourth but what about the DOD. Does anyway work for them or know anyone who does? What type of LEO jobs are available through them? I know they have there own internal "police" which works with crimes that involves troops and/or contractors. Talk to you later

Depends on how in depth you want to go. Most military bases, unless they are very small will either have a uniformed DOD police on base or a security force made up of military men & women. The DOD Police aren't a nationwide police, they are in the chain of command of each base.

You also have different branches of the military, through DOD with their own investigative units, such as CID, NCIS, etc. They also have a DOD Inspector General which investigates waste, fraud and abuse within DOD.

Hey Piggy, funny name btw, DOD has alot of branches so I guess that means alot of job choices, one would think.

I'll have to do some research into it much more and see what they have to offer. I know the one good thing about working for the feds is that you can move around, i.e. seek different positions in other branches. Talk to you latter.

DOD set aside, remember that once you get into the feds you can move around to different agencies. For example, you could get a job with the Dept of Agriculture and decide to move over to DOD. When you switch, you take all of your vacation time, sick time and benefits with you. You can't go wrong with the feds.

DCIS is the DOD OIG. I worked a search warrant with a few agents from DCIS. I was very impressed by their knowledge and professionalism.

Here is a link to their website:

Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

I went through FLETC with 4 guys that were there to become DOD game wardens (civilians that USUALLY fall under Range Control, with close ties to the Provost Marshal). One was going to USMC, one to USAF and the other two to the Army. A guy that I know at Fort Riley actually has two MP's from the post assigned to him.
Now, one of those 4 has since left his AF job and now works for the US Forest Service, but, like Piggy said, everything (pay, bennies, etc..) went with him, so he lost nothing.

Good stuff guys, I've spoken to a few people who worked for CIS, they basically said it's like the FBI but for the military.

I have been away from the forum for awhile but I feel I can provide a little insight for you. I became a DOD "Police Officer" back in 2005. I spent a year there before I became fed up and joined a city department. I am not verified yet but I am a sworn police officer now. I recently finished the academy. I worked for the Department of the Army Police for 1 year. I spent my first 9 months mostly standing on a gate with the contract security guards. We finally went to patrol but we still did not recieve any real training. I never attended any type of academy other than the little 4 day course they put on there (that's right, 4 DAYS!!!!). You do not take your weapon, OC, or baton home. You also can NOT carry off duty on your credentials, H.R. 218 does not apply to DOD Police. It is also in the department policy that you can not carry off duty unless you have a CCW permit. I believe it is Army regulation 190-5. You will have no police powers off duty and your powers on duty are limited at best. I am not trying to speak poorly of this agency, it is just not what I wanted. I am just trying to give you all the info I can because I have been there. I want to police so I went to a place where I can. I hope this has been helpful. If any DOD officers read this, I mean no disrespect, it just wasn't for me. Good luck.

You guys had creds? Cool. We didn't. I was also mistaken, it's AR 190-56.

    DOD Jobs

It wasn't a bad job really...Like most 0083 series they are mostly 99% physical security. If you like Law Enforcement by far go for a career in the state, county or local police in some state. This series is best used as a stepping stone or as a addition to a already retired person as a secondary income.
