Anybody hear how many classes ATF is putting on in 2010?
Anybody hear how many classes ATF is putting on in 2010?
Here's what I know and what I don't know. I've heard six classes for FY2010 as of now from another board.
The Commerce/Justice/Science Appropriation bill that the House has already passed and sent to the Senate is long out of committee by the Senate and just awaiting a formal vote; (health care debate, defense bill are taking priority and I've read that AG Holder's persistence to pursue legal action into the CIA could make for this bill to have a little drama on the Hill before it's said and done.)
Senate Report 111-034 details the budgets that they recommend for the DOJ including the ATF, DEA, and FBI.

The ATF's recommendations are here:

Basically both the House and Senate agree for an increase over FY2009 and it appears that the ATF is all but likely to get everything they asked for, despite the rate of increase being slightly less than 6.5%.
I know from others on this and other boards that the FBI is extending firm offers as of last week for NAT classes going into October and FY2010, so they evidently are confident in their FY2010 numbers (although their rate of increase is just a tick over that 6.5% mark.)
So as to why the temporary hiring freeze at the ATF? That's the $64,000 dollar question; the FBI under the same DOJ and same Appropriations bill isn't waiting around for the President to sign it before they carry on, but maybe they never completely exhausted FY2009 money as it appears the ATF did?
As previously stated, the ATF all but canceled last years SA posting so one would only logically postulate a healthy amount of SA vacancies for FY2010.

SemperFiVet,
Thanks for the info. That definitly answers all my questions.
Does anybody know when the next class is scheduled to start?
The FBI is looking to hire 975 SA's in FY2010 and have classes begining on 10/11, 120/25, 11/8, and 12/6. Each class has about 45 to 50 SA's and so in order to fill that mandate, they are going to run two classes a month for most of FY2010, however just not in November or December around the holidays.
So for whatever that may be worth to you, I wouldn't expect more than one or two at most classes in the 1st fiscal quarter of 2010 (October though December.)
SemprFIVet,
Thanks for the info. Just so I have this straight, when we are talking about academy classes we we are talking about CITP right? Or is it CITP and SABT?
The info I passed on from another site specifically said ATF new agent classes, CITP and then SABT as I understand it? The FBI info I speak of would obviously apply to FBI NAT classes at Quantico.
ATF open hiring from October 9 to October 19,2009.

Eunice: A .22? Oh you've gotta be kidding me. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Detective Greenly: Yeah, or bringing a really small gun... to a gunfight.

This is the one I was waiting for. I put in the application yesterday, and I am prepared for a long and competitive process, thus the username. Good luck everybody.
Completed my medical today. Now just the wait again for the next step.
Received a call yesterday and will go for my drug test today. Also received a call and scheduled my poly in three weeks. It feels great that the process is moving forward and a lot quicker than I expected.
Anybody hear anything as to when classes are going to start after the first of the year?
Heard yesterday that they are looking to cut a SA class in FY2010 in order to help budget much needed support personnel.
