swatoperator welcome to the party. Nice to hear another has made it half way through the battle. If all things go right, you might be in line to get called at the end of this year or early next year. Looks like things are starting to fall in place. Just make sure you get your packet back asap!!! Good luck to you on the rest of the process.

    rouge5,

Thanks brother! I already have the SF86 completed so there is one step (and the largest) down. Now I just need to get the med scheduled.

What point are you at in the process?

    Credit check

Is "choicepoint" a firm ATF uses to do credit checks?

Swat, SF86 can be lengthy, but at least you got it out of the way. As for the rest med/poly/BI that should be snowballing for you pretty soon. So just stay close to the phone. As for myself i have completed everything and have been lingering since April. You know what they say about the process, the wait is always the killer!!

I will be done with my packet tomorrow. Between work and getting sick, I haven't made time to finish up my SF-86 and make my medical appointment. Luckily, I have completed a few SF-86's, so I have the information to plug in. Time consuming, but at least I'm in the process...

I hear ya! I will have mine finished up today or tomorrow and sent out immediately and I have the medical scheduled for the end of the month.

To those who have finished everthing and are waiting for the call, how quickly was your BI started after turning in your SF86?

Preliminary BI started when everything is completed on e-quip which is out of D.C. From then it is usually 2-3 weeks after that someone will contact you for a field BI.

I pretty much have everything done. The only problem I have now is that I had my fingerprints completed on an older version SF-87 fingerprint card. I forgot to bring the cards that ATF sent when I got to work, so I got some from our AFIS division. Well, sure enough, we still have the older version, which may or may not be OK with ATF. Plus, they have that little sticker on the ATF cards... I guess I'll get my packet back out tomorrow...

Anybody hear anything from the ATF about the temporary hiring freeze? I know they are still processing for 1811's and plan to re-open that vacancy again on 10/9, but for the past month or so there has evidently been a temporary hiring freeze - anyone else hear this?

All fed agencies are on a hiring and spending freeze right now. It so called: end of the fiscal year, and running on a continuing resolution until the budget is passed and appropiated. All depends how fast the Congress and President move. This is an annual thing. The agency can't spend more in 10/09 than they did in 10/08. Same with 11/09, etc... until passed. No worries, it always passes. Sometimes in November, sometimes December, sometimes later.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

Isn't that why they pass the continuing resolutions, so that they can at least continue operations as normal and at least fill the positions they know need to get filled?

I know the FBI has a larger budget but they and the ATF are both in the DOJ, and the FBI is still extending firm offers and filling two new agent classes to Quantico in October alone.
