Thanks very much for the info. I really appreciate it. One more thing...how does ATF go about assigning you to a field office? Does it happen pre-academy? post-academy? somewhere in the middle?

The ATF will offer you a position to a specific office.

Rocko,
Thanks for taking the time to give us so much detailed insight. Great stuff!
This quote had me rolling BTW:

I remember one agent who we swore did not have headlights on his car b/c it was always light when he came in and always light when he went home. Just don't be that guy.

Gotta love the FEDS, it seems like every agency and field office has its "characters". LOL

Rocko, I can't argue with a thing you said, you nailed it down quite well.
PM me with specific questions.

Has anyone that signed up to take the test in Detroit heard anything about a test date yet? just curious, looks like some things are starting to move.

I talked to an HR person yesterday who said that they are still qualifying people for the next round of invites. I'm waiting for a New Orleans invite. Hopefully, they'll be further out than what the Boston test is scheduled for; I need to make sure I can take off.

I also spoke to ATF. They said the other cities will be sometime after the new year, maybe even as late as Feb.
